Approximately one in every 500 to 650 baby boys is born with an extra X chromosome, a variation in their genetic code that until a few years ago was thought to result in infertility in all cases. However, this is no longer the case. As recently as 10 years ago, all men born with an extra X chromosome -- a condition whose classic symptoms are known as Klinefelter syndrome -- were thought to be infertile. Now, new research at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, led by Dr. Peter Schlegel, has pioneered a surgical approach -- a combination of TESE (testicular sperm extraction) and IVF (in vitro fertilization) -- that enables these men to father healthy children approximately 40 percent of the time it is employed.
But this is just the beginning. "Our Department has five scientists who are leading research into Klinefelter's and other chromosomal variations. We are very pleased to join forces with KS&A to raise awareness for these conditions," says Dr. Schlegel, chairman of the Department of Urology and professor of urology and reproductive medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, and urologist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.
KS&A presented Dr. Schlegel with a "Lifetime Achievement Award" at its recent meeting to honor his infertility treatment advances -- which are rewriting the textbook on Klinefelter syndrome.

Dr. Paduch, who leads NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell's translational research into the molecular biology and genetics of 47XXY and Klinefelter syndrome, has assembled a diverse group of scientists from Cornell-Ithaca and Rockefeller University to create a center of excellence in research on Klinefelter syndrome. The unique meeting brought together national expertise in molecular biology and genetics of reproduction and molecular endocrinology. Each of the scientists who participated in the conference -- Weill Cornell's Dr. Matthew Hardy, an adjunct professor of urology, and Cornell-Ithaca's Dr. Paula Cohen, associate professor of genetics, as well as Dr. Alex Travis, assistant professor of reproductive biology -- offer unique expertise in basic science, which, combined with access to patients seen in the Department of Urology, will allow for multidisciplinary collaborations focused on basic scientific research to improve patient care.
"We are very pleased to join with NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, whose important research is a cornerstone for a growing body of knowledge that will help transform the lives of individuals who have X and Y chromosome variations," says Robert Shelton, chairman of the Board of Directors of KS&A. Most individuals have a total of 46 chromosomes. Commonly, men have one X and one Y chromosome; and women have two X chromosomes. But this is not true for everyone. The most common variation is 47XXY in boys and Trisomy X in girls. Without proper interventions, boys born with an extra X chromosome are at a significantly heightened risk of developing the signs and symptoms of Klinefelter syndrome as adults. Unlike other genetic syndromes such as Down's or Fragile X, comparatively little is known about X and Y chromosome variations. Aesthera's Breakthrough Painless Isolaz Therapy For Acne
Aesthera Corporation's Isolaz painless acne therapy has been featured in the September issue of Vogue, the most widely read issue of the year. Featured as a unique treatment that gets rid of acne fast, the Isolaz therapy is mentioned as the first laser approved by the FDA to treat severe acne.
"I haven't been this excited by a treatment in years," stated Jancee Dunn, Contributing Beauty Writer for Vogue and author of the piece. "The Isolaz completely cleared up the acne that had plagued me for ten years and vanquished all of my fine lines and sun damage. After the treatments, I could not stop touching my velvety skin. I am making standing appointments every month." Popular pills
Ms. Dunn's dermatologist, the renowned Dr. Frederic Brandt is also a fan of the treatment, "The Isolaz painless laser facial is one of the most innovative and effective in-office treatments for acne and skin rejuvenation that I have seen in years."
Aesthera's Isolaz is the only system FDA cleared to treat comedonal and pustular acne. The Isolaz therapy is also cleared to treat mild to moderate, inflammatory acne and acne vulgaris
In addition to Vogue, the Isolaz therapy has also been featured in the August issue of Harper's Bazaar and the September issue of Elle magazine as a new breakthrough treatment to effectively minimize and clear pores on a long- term basis. Pills Online
A recent clinical study also showed that, in addition to acne reduction, 64 percent of acne patients who had not responded to oral medications, topicals and traditional lasers in the past had shown greater than a 75 percent clearance of acne lesions after treatment with the Isolaz system. After four treatments, an 88 percent reduction in papular, pustular, comedonal and nodular acne was observed.

Acne Treatment Drug
A previously unknown side effect of an unnamed drug currently on the marketplace could be useful for treating acne, reports Chemistry & Industry, the magazine of the SCI. A UK company is about to start a Phase 1 trial with the drug involving 18 healthy human volunteers and the results are expected to be announced later this year. In an earlier Phase 1 study in nine healthy human volunteers, the treatment was seen to reduce the excretion of sebum by the skin, which is associated with acne development, by up to 70%. Buy Kamagra Online
'The Phase I results are startlingly good,' said Nigel Blackburn, director of clinical development at the company, Summit, which is organising the trial. 'Reducing sebum production has been the "holy grail" of acne treatment for 30 years, and there has been little success aside from Roaccutane which has significant side effects.' Cheap Viagra
The current 'gold standard' for acne treatment, Roaccutane can cause a wide range of side effects, including teratogenicity a€“ which leads to abonormalities in the unborn foetus of pregnant women, and has also recently been linked to depression and (inconclusively) to teenage suicides. The market for acne treatments is worth several billion dollars, and any new treatment developed without side effects could potentially reap blockbuster sales.
Although Summit has not disclosed the name of the drug now under evaluation, the company says it represents an entirely new class of compounds for treating acne. 'At the doses we are looking at any side effects should be mild compared with those resulting from Roaccutane treatment,' Blackburn commented. Cheap Viagra Online
The company hopes to begin critical Phase 2 trials to assess the efficacy of the drug in acne sufferers next year. Depending on the results, the drug could either be formulated as a stand-alone topical treatment or more likely in combination with other existing treatments. The company has already been in talks with several interested companies, who are waiting to see whether the initial results can be repeated in a larger study group.
