Serge

Some features I would like to have in GreyDragon themes next version :

1. Option to disable Side Bar for Root page
2. Option to add Text straight on Root page (which was available earlier and now incorporated thru some other method)

micro create your custom-css folder and put this in it
#g-rootpage #g-column-right { display: none; }
#g-rootpage #g-column-left { display: none; }
that will take care of 1.
#2 not quite sure how to get your text at the top of page I like mine on the side
users don't need to scroll to see photo on the right
Serge. can you have a code block active in just one album or in a about page?
(option) code block #1 view in album (name). code block #2 view in main page code block #3 view in about page.or code block #1 view in main page.code block #2 view in (name of album only ). code block #3 view in (name of album only)

Just specify description for the root album and it would be used for the root page

In my view, the primary weakness of the GreyDragon theme is the way it deals with portrait thumbnails. GreyDragon displays the thumbnail in a landscape box, and it displays a thumbnail of only part of the image. Inevitably, the portion it displays is not cropped the way I would crop the image if I were to switch it to landscape format.

I would like to see GD have an option to display images in a thumbnail box that maintains the aspect ratio of the original image. I realize that this will cause more variability in the display -- some images in a single row or a single screen will have landscape rectangles, while others will have portrait. Some people may not want this, but I think it will be a useful option.

Here is an example from my site of an image that (arguably) looks good in portrait aspect, but loses all of its appeal when seen as a landscape thumbnail. Images of other tall items -- towers, waterfalls, giraffes, etc. all suffer from this. http://raia.com/galleries/CanRock/MalCyn/IMG_4488.

well, you have two options today - make all portrait images top aligned or center aligned
yes, I realize that some images do have focus in the center and some are with view center more to the top. Unfortunatelly, there is not way to specify individually where focus is.
For sites with such mixed alignment, one can choose "Actual" thumb size to keep full photo in the view
This is simply a "square" thumb format with photo fully visible, and, yes, you would have "empty" spaces on the sides one way or another.
if you have better solution, could you please make a mock-up of http://raia.com/galleries/CanRock/MalCyn so it would illustrate your approach

My suggestion about portrait thumbnails is simply that the boxes not all be the same shape. If a photo is landscape, have the box be a landscape aspect rectangle. If the photo is portrait, make the box be a portrait aspect rectangle. This eliminates the empty space around each photo inside the box. A mock-up is attached.

OK, I see
this make rows of different height and width...
current logic relays on height and width so to accommodate this layout some redesign would be required...
I am not sure I am ready for this, I need to examine css code

what do you mean by code block? sidebar block?

Ok. then nothing special. I think it should be approached as whole solution for sidebar management. I personally like WordPress approach with multiple sidebars supported.
but you want a little more to it - conditional sidebar blocks - and this is yet another dimension.
As it is today, sidebar functionality/generation is not conditioned or manageableble from the G3 core - theme cannot influencense it - and as a result there are some hoops required. I rather not go too custom with that

you can change title of the gallery as a whole along with description

Hello,
i have a small question about GrayDragon theme.
When i use "Choose as the album cover" on my photo - there is no album cover at all - just blank album frame.

Is there anybody who know this problem?

Best Regards
Paul

i would like smaller thumbnails and occupying a larger area (both in width and length), like when you browse the picasa web albums

the reason is that on picasa web you can see like 20 albums (or 30 pictures) thumbs at once, and they're not too small, on my 1280x1024 screen.
with G3 you can see 9.. it means clicking next a zillion time, which i find really really annoying (i've found no theme like that - and in this one i did set as large as i could) ;(

Try this: make more rows per page, use more columns or use flexible columns and increase page width, use not-extended thumbs

Serge, thanks i did that, it's a lot better however its still not perfect.
I also removed the side bar which is huge (although i'd like to have it when viewing a single picture, but it seems to only work the other way around: have it on albums but not on pictures, or not at all)

I think the main issue is because the CSS has multiple lines around the thumbnails for some reason (one around the thumbnail itself, one around the row, one between 2 rows.. that makes 6 lines between 2 thumbnails !)

Maybe removing those extra lines would actually solve most of the "issue" (or, in my opinion, all of them - who needs lines when the thumbnails are aligned anyway? i understand lines for text or bigger boxes separation, but not per thumbnail or per row)

This could be an option
you can try forcing sidebar below or above the content to have more horizontal space

Switch to "simple" framepack and adjust spacing

I really like your theme, and I've already tweaked it a bit here and there so that it meets my needs. One things I noticed is in your info_block view, you don't take into consideration the options set by the user in the advanced settings for the info module. (i.e., show owner, show description, etc.) It might be a nice thing to have for easy tweaking of that block from the GUI.

Also in your "alternate header view," I would like to see the menu and the breadcrumbs simply switch position. So, instead of the menu moving to the top and the breadcrumbs going to the left, make the menu go to the right and the breadcrumbs on the left. I tried dinking around with the css, but that change escaped me. Of course, I was limited in time at that point and I haven't yet revisited it with a fresh set of eyes. :)

I was going to drop my custom logic all together, just did not have to do it

After further review, while menu could be moved right, it would require whole special css ruleset to right align menu blocks so they do not jump over the age of the page. I am introducing options, but I would not allow such alignment just yet

1. Breadcrumb on the homepage (root album), with option to extend the breadcrumb backwards (remember, gallery root may not be site root, and in breadcrumbs, it would be good to start with site root)

2. Different headers based on viewing language selected

Would home link preceding root album work?
I do not know if I want to go to more then one level extention

uuu, this may be a task for separate module

You might think I am asking more than I am. All you need to do is, provide 2 test fields (or more depending on number of languages installed) - One for "Home" text and one for site home URL....

Is it very difficult to do? I think (I had to uninstall Gallery and am doing a reinstall...so havent tried GD 3.0 yet) you are already asking for header. If you work with Gopu who has created Multilingual support http://gallery.menalto.com/node/100679 then his module could capture the multi-language headers, and if his module does that, you could handle the display based on language?

Also, the multilingual module has added back short description for SEO purposes...perhaps you could add support for that?

Just like you allow a custom.css, how about allowing a custom-header.php and custom-footer.php for those that need it? This way changes won't get overwritten by theme updates....just a thought...

more and more fields in the theme

if there is module for that, then why not extend it

If module provides meta description option already, why would you want to push it into the theme?

this is possible, following G3 scheme, I could allow placement of header/footer.html.php into views folder

The module captures the info. But it's up to the theme to use it or not, right?

So if you go all the way to the first post and click on the Edit tab of the thread you can change that? It's been a really long time since I've been a regular user in these forums and I can't recall what you could and couldn't do.

PM me if you want to discuss further.
