[WINDOWS] Register module

Guys,

I am trying to get a new instance of G3 up and running and have the requirement for users to be able to automatically register themselves. I have installed the register module, but there is something wrong. When a user clicks 'register' and fills in their details, a subsequent click of the 'register' button on the popup appears to do nothing, but DOES enter the details into the database. The fact that there is no password field in the register popup means that it is impossible for a user to successfully register themselves. The 'forgot password' link has a similar effect, doing nothing at all after the click. I know windows is not supported, but this is my only option at the moment so if anyone has any ideas then they would be much appreciated. Please feel free to have a go at registering yourself...

No it doesn't. An email should be sent to them with a link to finish everything, including entering a password.

This is the only support I can lend for a Windows installation:

You need something setup on your server to send email and PHP needs to be configured for it.

Is there a face in hands smiley? Yeah, makes sense that the mail needs to be sent somehow, I was getting hung up on the fact the front end didn't look right when it was actually around the back. Thanks for your help!

OK, I have hit a brick wall again with this one. I have a test script running http://87.194.128.158/mailtest.php which successfully sends email from php through my mail server. However, the register module never initiates a session with the server. Is there something different in the code in the register module that is causing this? That's the only explanation I can come up with.

Not any more it doesn't, but it would do if the mail server were running. I've abandoned that idea and have installed the phpmailer module. Hey presto, still no emails being sent from the register module.

I've gone back to the original configuration with the server running, so the test script works again now. There must be something wrong with what gallery is passing to the mail server, as the mail function clearly works. Anyone seen anything like this before?

Cured by a complete fresh install. Still not sure what was up, but then I don't suppose anyone cares as I'm a [WINDOWS] user.

It's not that we don't care. If someone wants to step up and commit 100s to 1000s of hours per year for the LIFE of G3 supporting the code AND the community for Windows related issues then we'll welcome them with open arms. As of yet, nobody has stepped up to bat to make such a commitment. It looked like we had someone for a short time, but like so many who have a lot of energy to start with, they've dropped off or other things in life have taken priority.
