Hey All -- I have enjoyed the features of Gallery for almost six months on my web site. But, now I want to try and re-launch my family tree, and I was wondering... Does anybody know of, write, or use a genealogy web site that has similar usability to that of Gallery, where I install and manage all aspects of the program? I want features that allow users to post comments and update/add persons. I have found various programs (shareware and freeware) that allow me to FTP html files that were created on my PC using a "proprietary" type software, most often using data in a GEDCOM file format. But, I want something interactive on-line, that is completely managable from my vantage point. Any all hints and tricks welcome! --OAKLEY |

I have found a site that may be what you are looking for at http://www.giric.com/phpmyfamily/index.php I have looked at the demo and it seems quite good, unfortunately I can't get it to work on my server due to some problems with MySQL, I've downloaded 4 sites now and not one of them will work with MySQL, guess I need to learn a bit more about it.
Hope this is useful

I'd say if you're a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints then use this one because it's got support for things like Temple marriages etc.

It's pretty good.

phpGedView is SF.net's POTM (that's Project of the Month), which probably means it's well worth checking out.

I just installed this last night... It's already up and running and works like a charm... If you're a windows user the go and get the Personal Ancestral File program from http:\\www.familysearch.org (it's free) and this will give you a quickie tool for setting up the tree. Then do the export to the GEDCOM file and plug into the phpGedView site and you're off!
If you're inclined you can see what a couple of hours can deliver:

Before you start, I would recommend buying the program Family Tree Maker. Fill out what you know and ask family to help. While you may not get all the info you need, it points you in the right direction. Check out the Church of Latter Day Saints or go to http://familysearch.org/searchindedx?=abcd/12/kalal (as mentioned by Brandon). However, you'll find a lot of dead ends on all websites. Be prepared to spend some money on ordering birth certificates, death certificates, Social Security Death Index, marriage records, immigration records and even boat records, family bible, etc...
You are preparing yourself for something that will take a lot of time. I spent several years and made it back to mid 1700.
Without Family Tree Maker, you will easily lose track of where you are.
