(skip to second paragraph for question firstly, i'd like to give a huge thanks to the developers of gallery. they are awesome. the first time i installed it was on a windows box a while ago, but now that i finally got debian up and running on my first linux box ever, the first thing on my 'to do' list was to put gallery on it. i had a few obstacles, but now it's running fine (afaik), but i wanted to know... i have an album (albumX) with ~700 pictures in it that i want to split into multiple sub-albums. i know how to make the subalbums, but i want to know if there's some easy way to get all of the ~700 pictures in albumX into albumX's sub-albums. i didn't see any easy ways to do this at first, but maybe i'm just missing something... or maybe not! anyway, TIA for your help. ---- |

The Move Photo page allows you to move a range of photos. Just select the photo numbers (not names/ids) that you want to move and then select where they need to go.

silly me, i should have remembered that when i assume things (like, for instance, that the "move photo" function would only move one photo), i make an ass out of me.
thanks!! :D

Here's a question related to this.
I noticed that suggestions for optimizing gallery when one has a large amount of photos say that its a good idea to do what [d]erek is doing, dividing albums into smaller batches of photos. My question is, how big is "BIG" for a directory? 50? 100? I have some directories that contain anywhere from 400-900 pics. How much dividing do I need to do before i notice a difference in lag with my HUGE gallery?
using gallery 1.4.4 pl2

I rarely add more than 150 images to an album. 200 is probably a good number to stop at, however the optimizations in 1.4.4 should make large albums much speedier than they were previously.
The main reason for breaking them up is that too many images in a single album is impossible to navigate through effectively for a user.

Okay, thanks for the tip. It would be nice if there was a way to configure albums with a "cap" on # of images uploaded for those albums open for public or member uploads. hmmm pehaps that's one for the suggestions page.
thanks again!
