come across these 2 URLs while search information regarding Drupal / G2 intergration:

http://aurora.walkah.net/drupalgallery/gallery
http://gallery-drupal.ithought.org/

Anyone got any information about it? how's the progress? any sneak preview or download the module to try out?

Many thx.

yaus - I'm responsible for the aurora.walkah.net URL. I am indeed working on Drupal / G2 integration. I will likely be making the code available within the next week or two, though likely won't "officially" release it until G2 hits beta.

I'll be sure to announce the availability both here, as well as over at http://drupal.org/

walkah is responsible for the drupal integration. you may want to send him a private message through the forum.

I have drupal 2.6-release candidate 1 and G2 integrated with g2 using Walkah's integration module. Everything seems to be working, but I have yet to figure out:

* How to use an alternate Drupal template for gallery pages. I have to drop the right rail to make room for some Gallery functionality, especially in the uploads.

* Why my stylesheets are getting screwed up.

Wish I had known G2 was going beta; I'm using code a week or so old that is still alpha.

I installed both from cvs (two days ago)..

but for some reason i'm not seeing any blocks showing up in my drupal installation.. is etup gallery navigation, and image blocks.. (i really just want a link to gallery )..

I tried to post info on the board, and contact the developer to no avail :(

i activated the blocks as said, i have an image, permissions are set as far as i can tell (neither gallery or drupal are bitching at me anymore)..

does the gallery admin password have to be the same as the drupal one ?

as in how does gallery know that drupal is allowed to access it ?

any help would be greatly appreciated.. i'm a bit confused and at a loss..

thanks,
David

p.s. Gallery 2 is an Awsome improvement.. i've played around with it, and the options are so many it's awsome :) thanks again for the great work..

i don't know how it's done in the drupal integration, but generally, if you're logged in in drupal, then you're logged in in G2. drupal says G2 "this user is authenticated". passwords don't have to be the same in G2 and drupal. only drupal passwords are required for embedded G2. but if you use G2 in standalone and embedded at the same time, you still need the G2 passwords. maybe the author of the drupal integration (walkah) synchronizes the passwords, maybe not.

Hey all,

I need help with my Drupal 4.6 and G2 (Beta 3 - Bingo!).
It's intergrated, and all works fine - except that with most themes gallery's fonts look so small that no one can read them.

Go here http://www.hypersensory.com/ and click on the gallery in the menu on the right.

Does anyone know how to change this to look normal?

I have the font problem, too, but only in IE. In Firefox, my fonts look fine. That could be due to an extension, though. I noticed that my embedded Gallery looks fine with the Goofy theme whereas PHPTemplate based themes have issues. I haven't had time to investigate further.

I've tried Firefox on my windows box and it has the same issue with the Gallery fonts. I did also notice that very few themes didn't display the problem, while majority (including bluemarine - default one) does have it.

I know this can be changed with a single line of code ... but i don't know where and what line to edit/add :)

You can see the problem at http://www.hypersensory.com/gallery

when you found the css that causes so small embedded G2 text, please let us know. perhaps we can do something about it in the default css files.

Ok, here is what i did by sugestion from a drupal.org user and it worked like a charm

"If you go to your matrix
waltonics - June 6, 2005 - 20:15
newIf you go to your matrix stylesheet (it seems that is what you are using now):

/gallery2/themes/matrix/theme.css

You will find there is a '#gallery' id entry that looks like this, its right up the top:

#gallery {
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 62.5%;
color: #333;
background-color: #fff;
}

change the font size to 100% and you are done.. This annoyed me too btw , and doesnt seem really the best place to be doing this??

reply"

Hi there!

I am having a major problem integrating G2 into Drupal 4.6. Both a great applications, but I can't release my website using them both until this issue is resolved!! I've tried posting this issue on the Drupal site and contacting the module author, but got nothing back so far!

Basically, when I embed G2 into Drupal using the gallery module I keep getting logged out of Drupal every time I open the gallery module. I think it has to do with Drupal and G2 both having their own PHP sessions, but I don't know how to fix this, or make them share the same one! If anyone can tell me how to fix this I will be extremely grateful!

Running G2b3 embedded into Drupal-4.6.2. Drupal installed in /data/apps/drupal (the webserver root). G2 installed in /data/apps/drupal/gallery2. D2 data in /data/apps/g2data.

All the basics work but it seems I'm having path issues. Not sure where to look.

- The applet on the "Crop Thumbnail" page is not working. It churns a bit then displays "Error loading image". I see an entry in the apache logs at the same time saying "File does not exist: /data/apps/drupal/gallery2/modules/core/plugins/gallery2". Looking at the source for the generated page shows the applet tag having the following argument: codebase="gallery2/modules/code/plugins". Should there be a leading "http://mysite.net"?

- The URL for the image in the block is occasionally missing the "http://host" portion so the URL is relative. Doesn't work off the main page.

- Sort of the same with Shutterfly upload. View source in their resulting page shows it it with an img tag with href="gallery2/..."; missing the host portion.

- Uploading ZIPs doesn't work after adjusting the max upload file sizes and reverifying that the path to 'unzip' is good. Says "0 items added".

- Remote not working according to users. Haven't tested myself.

- Slideshows display first frame then stop. They work when using the non-embedded version.

I suspect there it something wrong with the way I have my paths are setup. Or, some assumption has been made in G2 that isn't valid when embedded like this.

Any suggestions welcome. Would love to hear from other G2/Drupal users who've been successful.

I posted this over at drupal.org but I thought I would ask if anyone has fix here. Kind of looks like the module is not being worked on real activily (just going from the number of bugs posted).

Gallery2 works stand alone drupal works stand alone. When useing gallery2 embed module things start going wrong.

warning: _gallery_init(gallerey2//embed.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/httpd/vhosts/walkerpad.com/httpdocs/testsite/modules/gallery.module on line 235.
warning: _gallery_init(): Failed opening 'gallerey2//embed.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /home/httpd/vhosts/walkerpad.com/httpdocs/testsite/modules/gallery.module on line 235.

I had this problem ...
In the gallery module function _gallery_init calls:

GalleryCoreApi::fetchUserByUsername('admin');

and appears to be assuming that user 1 has username admin.
In my case it hasn't.
I changed 'admin' to the username of user 1 and the problem disappeared.
Perhaps Drazzig has a similar problem.

I'm currently running G2 embeded in Drupal and the only problems I've run across are SQL errors when the Drupal block for G2 random images is turned on, and not being able to use the upload applet from within drupal. Other than that it's seems to work decently but, i'll probably be stripping G2 out of Drupal. The gallery is here if you want to check it out.

When i try i just get: "
Fatal error: Undefined class name 'galleryembed' in /hsphere/local/home/graphic/neosoft.web.surftown.se/drupal/modules/gallery.module on line 251"

no... currently gallery2 and drupal have to be on the same server, because drupal needs to include the embed.php file distributed with g2.

Now that Gallery is using Drupal as its CMS application, can we see better integration between them?

The latest release for the Gallery module (http://drupal.org/project/gallery) hasn't been updated since April, so is it compatible with the new release of G2?

I understand that the some work had to be done to make G2 compatible with Drupal on this site, so what exactly are these modifications?

It'll be great with someone could come up with a short tutorial to get things started. :)

Just browse the CVS repository (http://drupal.org/project/gallery) and grab the install.txt and gallery.module. They have been updated within the last week.

Isn't it anyway to rewrite the module to pickup the embed.php file on the local server and all the other on the other server?

Because the server the site is on is running safe_mode so i set gallery up on a diffrent server. So if i copied the embed.php to another directory like the site's root and change the module to read it instead and change the embeed file so it reads from the other server there the gallery is placed

Has anyone thought about doing a PHPTemplate page to integrate the gallery?
Like page-gallery.tpl.php maybe?
I am trying to figure out how to do this like what was done in a phptemplate for forums to look like phpbb (here :-)) But I am new to php so I will lumber on.
I did try the gallery module last night but I got soooo many .inc file errors that I turned it off.
I hope that Gallery puts up a gallery on thier Drupal site so we will know how to do it :-)

gecko13 - There's information on how to make forums look like these here: http://www.drupalart.org/phpbb but it's for Drupal 4.6. As to the Gallery module for Drupal, I don't know if it's been back ported to 4.5. I'm guessing probably not. The latest Gallery module works with 4.6 fine but you will need to tweak your theme to get it looking nice.

looks like some folks have some good success!

i'm running g2 and drupal 4.6.3 on the same server. my g2 is standalone (if that means it was installed and running before drupal :) my drupal is running, i.e., both work.

i downloaded the gallery.mod for drupal and and dropped it in the drupal/modules dir. ( i do not know what to do with the module's included .pot file, maybe that's the problem?).

i enabled the module in drupal and placed the block on the left:
http://rogers.gotdns.com

***EDIT!!** i just read somewhere that if my gallery folder is called anything else besides "gallery2" i'd be in trouble.
i (knowing it wasn't "right") changed the name of that dir to "gallery2". i also changed the name of that dir in drupal's gallery settings, now i have an embedded g2! still no images showing, but now no images are showing ANYwhere, including in my standalone gallery, and, i'm getting all kinds of weird urls and errors... very interesting. what all do i have to do to change the name of that "gallery" directory... i.e., where else do i need to change it?
***End Edit***

a random image is suppose to appear (random images appear on my g2 site:
http://rogers.gotdns.com/gallery (my g2 root dir is called "gallery", btw... its data folder is located out of the web dir, as per g2 setup instructions).

i get the name if the random image in my drupal block, but no image. if you click on the image name (link) you get "page not found" printed in my drupal site.

what's wrong? if ANY usernames of passwords must be the same please tell me, my dbs and other stuff have different user/pass info. --did i miss some Readme, the only i had was the one with gallery.module that said to put the gallery.module file in the drupal.modules dir.

would it be better to embed g2? how do you do that, i'd probably like to... it sounds like the proper way if you want "one" site?

FIXED!!! via ravorX's modified gallery.module > found in his post at the following thread:
http://drupal.org/node/24828

i did NOT change my gallery dir name, it is called gallery (according to the "migrating" installation instructions for g2).

i DID change my username in g2 so that it is NOT the same username as my drupal. <-- i saw that info in the same referenced thread. i do NOT know if making that username adjustment would have fixed it without using his module file or not. EDIT: i tried without using the modded module... didn't work. /EDIT

ok, back to experimenting with an "embedded gallery (g2)", now... how do you do that?

ichiro - I looked at that modified module and it's based on a gallery.module from April 26th. The latest module is, IIRC, from Sep 16th. There have been a lot of changes to G2 since April. If it's working for you, great, but if you run into problems you'd be better off getting the up to date code working.

hi, i've repeatedly tried the up-to-date module, hence my posts in this thread. i simply cannot get help to get passed the red x on the [random] image problem. as i said, it will give the image name but only a red x. i'd love to solve that. i've asked the question i know to ask --about usernames/passwords being the same, or maybe i have some redirect problem --i just have no idea. i'd be happy to let some knowledgeable person in my site (as admin) to look at the problem.

i asked about redirect and .htaccess file during my migration from g1 --i never had any .htaccess files so i made one and it wrote to it. i no longer have any g1 folders installed and never had any .htaccess file in g1 at all.

i just don't know what to do and after days of posting i've either asked the wrong questions or....

maybe i should reinstall my entire g2 as if it were knew and see if the module works. :(
do you know where there are instructions on embedding a NOT yet installed g2 into drupal? i may wish to try it again that way.

The problem with the random image block has been there as long as I've been using the module. Are you saying this other person fixed that? I don't have a lot of time today, so I only did a quick skim. If s/he managed to fix that bug, I'd love to know how. :)

i installed the gallery.module (maybe not the latest cvs, i'm doing that now) and it seemed to work --it show the block (i set it to left) and had the name of the random image but a red x for the image.

i installed the one i found by raverx (see link above) and the image appeared, however, i did also change my username to be different in each app. since then, i did retry the original module --thinking maybe username change was it-- it still did not show the image.

i'm reinstalling drupal and g2, maybe as embedded if there are instructions for that type of install. i am also going to try the latest cvs of the module in my current setup and see what gives there.

will report back.

The username shouldn't affect it. The image not showing up is because the path it gets is wrong. Maybe this other guy fixed it. When I get a chance, I'll take a look at his code and see if I can figure it out.

Installing G2 embedded is just installing it stand alone and activating the module, which is what you already did.

this site, if you register and look around: http://lab.walkah.net/drupalgallery/
seems like what an embedded install should be, no? both the drupal and the gallery have the same look.

(also, in the bugs and issues forum area run by walkah --i believe-- is where i read somewhere that someone's issues were solved when they changed from having the same username... either at that site or at the one i linked above where raverX's modd'd module is.)

mine have completely different looks --as if it were 2 distinct sites, simply linked --although there is no link once at my gallery to get back to drupal (home). that is the kind of "consolidation" of the 2 standalone sites i am looking for.
suggestions?

Well to get the two to look the same you must modify the gallery theme to match what your Drupal theme is. There is no way for the two programs to know how each other look.

i just installed a fresh drupal 4.6.3 and fresh gallery2.

the gallery.module from cvs (1.9) works: it shows the random image on the drupal main page.

isn't it also supposed to show a link to gallery2? if so, what must i enable?

EDIT in reply to "looking alike", now this is interesting --i haven't seen this before-- when i click the random image on the drupal page i get quite a "gallery2" display in a drupal page, check it out:
http://thalia.shacknet.nu <<--click the random image (better hurry i may start editing again!)

fascinating --now i may be closer to understanding what the use of "embed" is meaning. not that i'm unfamiliar with embedded objects, but documentation and terms seem scattered about all this stuff. ;-)

I have added an enhance gallery.module for Drupal/G2 integration here:
http://drupal.org/node/32393

This adds/corrects:
1) Ensure image type selection works
2) Allow for multiple images in the block
3) Use Gallery2 naming for Image Types
4) Set breadcrumb ****requires mod to main.php**** Kludge!
5) Add navigation block
6) Use Full Names (using profile.module) - degrades to username if not available
7) Include drupal/g2 css file (currently very basic)
8) Add parameter for max_size from depdev

Let me know if you have any problems/comments.
Note that the Breadcrumb is not perfect as 1) Needs main.php change 2) Does not use URL Rewrite links 3) Does not remove BB code from title. Any help on this would be appreciated.
