red hat has a packaging system (rpm), google for redhat ffmpeg rpm and you'll find it.
yep, we can't compile it either. on my test box, i can install it with gentoo's packaging system. for windows, we offer the binary that bharat found.

Hi paulberne, I tried the binary and it failed, unfortunately. thanks for supplying it though, right neighbourly of you.
Apparently my host (hostgator) uses "Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 1)". maybe that's different from yours. I don't understand these things very well.
Has anybody complied a binary for that operating system? I don't have shell access so I can't rpm it.
I assume. Does anyone know if it's possible to use rpm without shell acess?

Thanks paul. It worked for me!
Make sure that you set the path directly to the binary in the Admin page like so:
/home/[username]/Tools/Ffmpeg/bin/ffmpeg

Thanks Paul. that worked perfectly. put it in my cgi-bin. chmod to 755. pointed the gallery module to /home/mysite/www/cgi-bin/bin
can I move the binaries up to cgi-bin? would i have to change any setting other than the gallery module path?

hi
i am new here and I have also been looking for the ffmpeg libraries.... they dont have it on sourceforge, other than the cvs version.
anyway, i found this site that provided it
i've downloaded the file from erinleow's link and i'm not exactly sure what to do next to install.
the installation file says:
1) Type './configure' create the configuration (use './configure
--help' to have the configure options).
'configure' can be launched from another directory than the ffmpeg
sources to put the objects at that place. In that case, use an
absolute path when launching 'configure',
e.g. /ffmpegdir/ffmpeg/configure.
2) Then type 'make' to build ffmpeg.
3) Type 'make install' to install ffmpeg and ffserver in
/usr/local/bin.
i just want to make sure i'm doing this right:
- ftp ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1 (directory) and move down to root level?
- type " ? " to configure
- go to step 2?
ty for you're help

bkr those directions are for compiling ffmpeg on our local machine, if you don't have ssh access to your server then they won't work, even if you did I doubt your hosting company would allow you to compile the software. I used paulbearne's link and it worked for me, of course you need to make sure your hosting company is running linux on your webserver, it won't work for a windows platform.

No audio or video streams available
ffmpeg version 0.4.9-pre1, build 4718, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard

rehat?
I don't know
How to i find out from a shell account?

most probably your phpinfo page shows the architecture at the top.
sysinfo works in the shell, if it's installed.
