I have just started a fresh install of Gallery 2, using the latest version. I had previously installed both RC1 and RC2 without any issues.

Now when I try and use the installer for a fresh install I keep getting this error:

Error: your login.txt key does not match correctly. Please download a new authentication string from below and try again.

I download the login.txt file, upload it, it works fine and then it goes back to this screen after a few clicks. It doesn't always happen on the same step of the installer. I have cleared the cache on my computer and have tried it on another computer also, with IE6 and FF as the browser.

you're the 3rd user to report such an issue since the release of g 2.0. g 2.0 has been downloaded a few thousand times, so this seems to affect a very small percentage. yet, i haven't figured out what you three have in common.
thanks for providing system information and a phpinfo link, hopefully this will help identiying the problem. but it's nothing obvious.

from your gallery2 link i see that you finally managed to install it. did you change anything?

After you upload the login.txt do you start the installer over again? I know I've been able to upload the login.txt, and delete it at the next step after the authentication without any problems.

Valiant: Nope, I didn't change anything, I did manage to get to step 8 where it installed the core modules before it went back to the authentication step. I then used the site admin control area to install the rest of the modules manually (full install) and this resulted in some weird issues like: thumbnails weren't building at all. This all worked perfectly with RC1/2 and I was holding out for G2 final before I went live.

nivekiam: The install starts right back from the beginning, although it seems to remember all the settings along the way. I will try delete it and see what happens.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Tried this and it still does the same thing. Always rolls back to the authentication step and I have to repeat everything else.

Update: Still comes up with the same issue, can't figure out why. It worked perfectly with RC1 and RC2. I managed to get as far as installing the core gallery module, after which I installed the other modules manually. Inconvenient, but small price to pay. The thumbnail issue seems to be a known issue, something to do with the order in which the graphics toolkits are activated, I activated ImageMagick first and it works ok now.

I have managed to get gallery2 installed and absolutely love the software. I will donate as soon as I have some spare cash.

Thank you for the help, anything I can do to help solve this issue for other people, let me know.

Hello All

I don't have a perfect english. I'm a french user, sorry.
But I've got the same problem when i try to install it for the first time now.
I never used it before at this time.
I can go to the step 8 and after that it reload the first page (step 2).

It told me that following sentence :

Quote:
"Error: your login.txt key does not match correctly. Please download a new authentication string from below and try again."

Please !
Is there anyone to help me ?

PS: Sorry for my bad english !!

I think at some point the login.txt moved from being in /gallery2/install (or is it /gallery2/setup?) to just /gallery2/. I doubt this is the problem, but maybe?!

Like Gallery? Appreciate my help? Think I'm an asshole? Make your point by donating to the Gallery project! Or maybe just visit my website.

fryfrog: don't think so. yes we moved it from install/ to / but if this was the issue, we'd see it more often.

Hi!
I can see that there are a few people with the same problem as myself.
I keep getting the message:

"Error: your login.txt key does not match correctly. Please download a new authentication string from below and try again."

I´m trying to install Gallery 2 on my PC with the following properties:

Windows XP SP2
Apace 1.3.31
PHP 5
MySQL 4.0.21
Browser Firefox 1.0.7 and IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

But I don´t get passed step 1?!?!?! It doesn´t matter how I do. I have tried to manually copy the key into a blank login.txt, I have tried to download the file but it is filled with loads of crap. This is how it looks when I have downloaded the file:

<br />
<b>Warning</b>: session_start() [<a href='function.session-start'>function.session-start</a>]: open(C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/htdocs/html/Temporary\sess_09tmk89iqn99qdtun4th53fdl1, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in <b>c:\program files\apache group\Apache\htdocs\html\gallery2\install\index.php</b> on line <b>77</b><br />
86bae653732018d21ed275fa9468e49d<br />
<b>Warning</b>: Unknown: open(C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/htdocs/html/Temporary\sess_09t

On top of that I get this text at the very top of the browser:

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/htdocs/html/Temporary\sess_3ptg5h675v44rq4ejqbt01lug7, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in c:\program files\apache group\Apache\htdocs\html\gallery2\install\index.php on line 77

And the following text at the very bottom of the page:

Warning: Unknown: open(C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/htdocs/html/Temporary\sess_3ptg5h675v44rq4ejqbt01lug7, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/htdocs/html/Temporary) in Unknown on line 0

Can anyone of you guys give me a hint to what it can be?!

Regarsd Mats

you need to setup your php correctly (session stuff).
FAQ: install/index.php is blank or shows an error. What's wrong?

Hi I´m using php 5.0.2 and the settings described in the FAQ-link seems to be similar to what I´ve got?

Have a look at this link. You might be able to help me when you have this information.

http://www.euren.no-ip.com/phpinfo.php

I´m on GMT+1 and my server will be up and running from 8AM to 23:30PM local time.

php 5.0.2 is not supported by g2.
install php 4.x or php 5.0.4+

I have been trying to install Gallery but I keep getting the same message
""Error: your login.txt key does not match correctly. Please download a new authentication string from below and try again."
I also get a message on top of the page:

Warning: putenv() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/users/s/saadtazi/www/galerie/modules/core/classes/GalleryTranslator.class on line 274

I am running a PowerBook G4 with Camino.

Thanks for your help

since you are the owner of the "server", change your php.ini and restart the webserver.
open php.ini and remove the
disbale_function
line.
also, set
error_reporting E_ALL
(replace the existing line). etc.

Valiant,

Thank you for your quick feedback.

Since I am not a comuter geek, excuse my naive questions.
Do I need to modify the php.ini in the Gallery package?
Are the two lines you've just mentioned the only ones to modify or are there others?

Thanks again.

no, php.ini is part of your php / apache installation and not part of g2.
and yes, you need to modify the php.ini, where ever it is on your system.

Thanks,

Do I have to modify other lines than the 2 you've mentioned?

Thanks again,

without seeing your current settings i can't tell you that.
and no, don't post your php.ini here!

if, then link to a phpinfo page (<?php phpinfo(); ?>) but don't paste here php.ini!

Valiant,

It was not my intent to post the php.ini here...
Thanks for your help. I'll play with the file and see how it reacts.

cheers,

Thanks Valiant!
You were right! I have now installed php 5.0.5 and the Gallery2 installation works perfectly fine. But when I´m trying to integrate Gallery in my PostNuke 0.750 installation with the pnGallery2 1.0 Beta module I don´t get it to work. I have done all things according to the instructions. Also disabled the URL Rewrite Module in Gallery2 as I saw someone in another thread recommended. But I still get the message "Failed to load module pnGallery2" when I call the module from postnuke with [pnGallery2].
This might not be the thread to ask this question but maybe someone looking at this have had a similar problem?

Regards

MaEu: please post your problem in the g2 integrations forum.
but you still might not get any help, since noone is actively developing the pn integration or supporting it right now.

Just FYI; I had the same problem installing G2: kept on going back to the Authentication (Step 1) screen after the Installation Type screen (step 3). I "fixed" it by turning off my firewall (ZoneAlarm Pro).

please try tomorrows nightly snapshot (available in about 11h). -> jesse mullans nightly snapshots page, a link to it is on the download page.
cookieless browsing was partially broken in the installer.
so if your browser doesn't accept cookies or the cookie settings of your php are incorrect, this was the problem and it shhould be fixed now.
