site admin -> modules: install and activate the imageblock module.
(site admin -> themes -> matrix -> add imageblock to sidebar block list)

So you've installed it via Site Admin > Modules?
Then you need to add it to either the sidebar, album or photo areas. Go to Site Admin > Themes > (click on your theme name) >
Now if you want it on the Sidebar, select Image Block from the drop down and click Add. Once added, you can select it in the Selected box and choose which type of Image Block you want.
Does this answer your question?

Ok, but at administer -> modules i don't have any "image block". What to do now? I named my gallery installation directory "gallery" before reading the advice not to name it like this. Could this be the cause for the problem?

Ah, you need to download and install it
You can download additional modules not included with your selected G2 package here. http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Download
BTW, I've added a "How To" for setting up Image Blocks here: http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:How_Tos#Image_Block
