Has anyone tried adding the pixtofone service to Gallery? It was easy to do for spmg gallery and works really well. And the best part is that it is completely free for you or those that visit your gallery.
go here to see how easy it is to html. I am not as skilled with php. Anyone with more skill wanna take a stab and have a how to or a module named after them?

I loaded ftp'd the pix2phone folder to my modules folder. When i went into the site admin to install and activate that module. I got the following error.

Pix2Fone 1.0.0 Add block to support pix2fone.com service for sending images to cell phones
Incompatible module!
Core API Required: 7.0 (available: 6.8)
Module API Required: 3.0 (available: 2.0)

any idea how to over come this. I just recently installed gallery-2.0.4 full edition. is something missing here?

Yeah. I figured it out. The upgrade to 2.1 was smooth and simple. I can't believe how easy this program is to use. And the forum support here is amazing. Thanks!

I'ive installed and activated the module succesfully and added the block to my theme. But when i'm trying to use the Alt-Click just nothing happens. The Demo on pix2fone.com works without any problems.

Any suggestions?

I've installed this module and it installed and I can see the Alt-Click options within the Photo Page, but the Alt-Click doesn't work. I have tried the Carbon Theme and Classic Theme and the same result. Any support out their for this issue?

you sent a PM suggesting it doesn't work because there is no .jpg extension on the image URL. try activating URL rewrite module and see if pix2fone works then.

Hi mindless,

Thanks for all you do... I'm new to g2 and just getting used to customizing my installation, and getting to know the forums. Thanks for the link to the FAQ above.

I installed the pix2fone module and it works fine, except that two instances of the p2f dialogue box come up when a pic is alt clicked. I looked for the p2ff.js javascript call and found that it's only used once in Preloads.inc in the module:

root@h45280 [/home/oprativ/www/gallery/gallery2/modules/pix2fone]# grep p2ff *
Preloads.inc: $template->javascript('http://mms4.com/p2ff.js');

Initially, I had modified /gallery2/themes/carbon/templates/local/theme.tpl to include the javascript tag given on the p2f website:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://mms4.com/p2ff.js"></script>
but I removed that tag after installing your module.

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the module. When it's uninstalled, the alt click does nothing. I reinstalled the module and continue to get two instances of the p2f dialogue.

Thinking that theme.tpl may be cached somewhere,
I deleted cache and cookies from the firefox browser, and still get two instances of the p2f dialogue, but wouldn't know where else to look for where this second call is coming from.

In *some* cases, redundancy can be a beautiful thing ;-) but not here. Could you point me in the right direction so that I can uncover the cause of this little glitch?

Much appreciated,
Jim de Geus

Hi guys,

I'm having some problems with the pix2fone module, and I'm wondering if I can get some help diagnosing what the problem may be.

First, when I alt click an image, I get two instances of the pix2fone javascript app.
In addition, pix2fone was not able to grab the alt clicked image.

I've cleared the template cache in System Administration and also from Cache Maintenance in /lib/support, and still get two instances.
I'm using a local theme.tpl file for the carbon theme, and the <script> tags that I had previously added are not present.
When I deactivate the pix2fone module, I get no instances when I alt click an image.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the module, and still get two instances, and pix2fone was not able to grab the image.

I went to /install/index.php to check if there were missing/updated files, which there were.
I gunzipped and untarred the Gallery2 tarball to replace any missing files. I did not go through the install process.
The missing/updated files all have to do with the digibug module and how it connects to snapfish, which i don't use.

Now the pix2fone module can't connect to the pix2fone server.

I'm on a Virtuozzo Virtual Private Server (VPS) running under RedHat Enterprise.
I checked the firewall rules for the VPS and all tcp web server input on port 80 is allowed.
Apache serves up the webpages just fine, my gallery is accessable to the outside world.

I checked the Graphics Toolkits in System Admin and GD, Imagemagick, and NetPBM all check out ok.

I've added pix2fone.com and mms4.com to the approved referrers list in the URL rewrite module.
Block Hotlink items is unchecked.

I ran gallery in logging debug mode and no errors showed up when i tried to invoke pix2phone.
error log: http://oprativ.com/gallery/gallery2/log/error_log.html

That's about all I've done, if someone could point me in the right direction, I'd muchly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jim

I also picked up this error log entry:

Quote:
sh: line 1: 5327 Segmentation fault ( "/usr/local/bin/identify" "/home/oprativ/public_html/gallery/gallery2/modules/imagemagick/data/test.svg" ) 2>/home/oprativ/g2data/tmp/g2dbgDHw8dJ

This seems like it's an imagemagick problem when pix2fone tries to grab the image?

Hello again guys,

I've determined that it is some other javascript that I'm running to disable right click http://gallery.menalto.com/node/55649 that's causing the multiple instances of pix2fone.

That being corrected, I've determined that it is not the server or firewall config that's keeping pix2fone from grabbing the image. i've other domains hosted on the VPS and pix works just fine on them. so it's something within gallery.

in the access log i see the GET request from pix2fone, and when i use the GET URL in a browser, the image comes up fine.

i've got pix2fone as a safe referrer in the URL rewrite.

i just cant figure out why pix can't grab the image.

thanks,
Jim

Ah, sorry to use up all this bandwidth, fellas, but I found the problem. I had to set the permissions so that Everybody could see the resized image. Previously, I had wanted all my visitors to register then log in, so only Registered Users could see the resized images. Pix couldn't grab the resized image because it didn't have permission. *Duh*

Anyway, thanks for letting me rant above, and I hope that if anyone else encounters this problem they'll find this thread helpful.

Regards,
Jim

Is there anyway to use this and to charge a fee for people to have the artists images sent to their phone? For example 10p per image they want to download? I know it might seem to some very capitalistic but after all this is my job and passion and alot of time and energy has gone into it, and have to make a living too.

If pix2fone doesn't have that option, does anyone know of another that does?

I noticed you said permissions had to be set for Everyone all access in order for this to work. Is there another setting that would allow me use pix while keeping permissions set to only those who are registered? right now when I Alt-Right Click it either highlights the image or downloads the main.php.

Thanks
Greg

Mindless, could you rewrite this module to work with Gallery 2.2.1. It works to some extent but also forces a download of the gallery .html page (in Firefox), something that doesn't happen in Gallery 2.1.2 with the same browser.
A nicer feature to incorporate this time is use a 'clickable link' below the image on photo pages only, instead of using 'alt-click'. I say this because 'alt-click' can grab any image on the page including icons, logos, etc, not just gallery images, this is not desireable. With the link on photo pages only, it would specifically have a target image that would be obvious to the user.

Thanks!

I don't see anything that needs to be updated for G2.2.x. You'll have to be more specific about the problem you see.

In the Firefox browser, when I use this feature in my gallery, it does what it should, i.e. grabs the image you 'alt-click' on, then sends it to the pix2fone site, however, it also forces Firefox to download the entire gallery .html page that you are on, to your computer.

I have two sites, one with G2.1.2, that works fine with this module, and the other with G2.2.1, which causes this error in Firefox.

In addition to that, because the current module relies on Java, it will allow the user to 'alt-click' on any image on the gallery page and send it to pix2fone, even if this image is not a gallery item, eg it could be your site logo, navigation icons, etc. Although this may not be a big deal I think it would be better to permit only gallery images to be sent to pix2fone.

A work-around could be using a link on the photo pages that uses php to specifically grab the resized gallery item and send to pix2fone. I had copied the .js code to a file on my server, and turned the 'pix2fone description' on my photo pages into a link. I was hoping to find some php code to 'copy and paste' that I could use to grab the image and then with some of the .js code, send it to the pix2fone site, but I'm really not a programmer, so I'm stuck after the point of creating the link (I know that's the easiest part).
Hoping you will help out here.

Thanks.

Can't comment more on G2.1.x/G2.2.x difference w/o seeing it.. there shouldn't be any difference based on gallery version. More likely you changed version of firefox and now alt-click on an image brings up a dialog to save it.
I just wrapped the pix2fone javascript file (there is no java) in a gallery module.. if that js file activates alt-click for all images, that's the way it works.. I have never used this module and have no plans to work further on it. good luck..

- allowing anyone to use this may be considered as a kind of spam. Is there a way to somehow limit this via the permissions system?
