Hello, Just installed Gallery on my website and i'm uploading tons of images to build a huge collection. I'm interested in modifying layout of my Gallery to place Google AdSense ads to get some clicks from the visitors, however i would love to take a look at the already running Gallery sites to proceed. beware of G adsense TOS
adsense only in public pages - never within login areas
i have gallery2 running with adsense
the bottom large rectangle still needs some CSS tuning
the rest so far seems fine
I would love to have positions more mobile
to more large rectangle UP or left or right or in place of a photo

I may soon research into the topic to see if user-dependant adsense can be shown or disabled. right now i switch theme to a NON-adsense theme when ever i work on the gallery

yes i am very serious about NO adsense in any page while logged in as user/admin with password

there also is another most important security reason for NO adsense in log in or admin pages
Google adsense (mediabot) AND Googlebot arrive within seconds or minutes on your admin or logged in pages
getting all admin URLs into G index
no matter how secure a SW is - admin URLs in G is an open invitation for hackers
I just had from dec 2005 till february 2006 exactly such case where hackers used a security holes of a SW used by searchng Google for domains with that URL ...
and abused MANY domains for very UNpleasant illegal stuff !!!
in ANOTHER thread there is a nice and fully working script to add to template file that assures NO adsense shown during logged in sessions for all
adsense easily can be installed w/o additional module
just modify the 2 templates accordingly ( sidebar and main template ) and save in /local/

hans51, I was wondering, if someone can see your password protected pages, why cant mediabot? -in case you see NO adsense = means I am in admin mode working- that was the portion I was referring to. Your password protetced are will not be visible to the non members as well as bot.
Ofcourse there are ways to allow access to mediabot on password protected pages. I have implemented somethig based on IP address range and user agent name for a client. Works pretty well. Another interesting point is adsense TOS doesnt say anything specifically about not using the adsense on protected pages, even though there are some vauge hints.
Mediabot exposing the URL to hackers is not correct. mediabot and googlebot(for search) are totally independednt. Even otherwise, people know exactly what is the URL and coding of gallery, or any opensource project in general. Unless you are updating all patches, open source web applications are always open to hackers.

when you admin your site or have logged in users on your site and have adsense displayed for logged in users
then the google search-bot Googlebot as well as google mediabot see a different content from what the logged in users see
that is a clear TOS violation - you may have to go back to BASIC webmaster TOS - displaying a different page for bots than for regular surfers may lead to DE-indexing/ban an entire site! same most likely would apply to Yahoo YPN and Yahoo serch in general!!

google would have NO way to properly index the exact content of pwd protected pages nor could adsense deliver relevant ads without knowing exact content of that page NOR has adwords customer possibility to verify content where his ads are displayed
nor has google team possibility to verify content and see if content of page is violation of adsense TOS or any other google TOS!!
in addition to all above you get a lot of google identical pages into G index because the pages Googlebot finds when following mediabot is always the same page-content in most cases for logged in pages behind closed doors.
having many or an ever increasing number of identical pages is sooner or later going to hurt your overall quality reputation at G and other SE.
mediabot and Googlebot are both from Google and I have absolute evidence that Googlebot followed in my case during early installation of adsense within 1-3 minutes the mediabot - NO other possibilities to know or find any URL because during that time no one else but me knew that I was having a new folder/subfolder structure and no one knew URL of any kind into that area. however in most cases Googlebot appeared on the adsense pages even within less than a minute after the first mediabot visit. mediabot visits a page within seconds to a minute of the first adsense display of a new page.
that may be a new procedure or only an emergency procedure after Google's June 27 2006 database crash with partial loss of all search index data for a larger number of sites - but it is a fact I have observed in my continuously running live-site-access-control ( whoisonline )

Googles Adsense program lets you specify secured pages and lets you enter a URL,username and password to gain access (and they go on to say stuff about respecting privacy etc).
What worries me though is my 'London Zoo' gallery gets Adsense adverts for gay porn (amongst others) and Google refuse to allow you to censor adverts for content. Since when has 'London Zoo' been a gay porn term?

That is a brand new feature Google offers since a few days only - and of course Google always allows a publisher full control about what advertisers is allowed to appear on your site and who NOT by the use of the FILTER feature that allows you to ban an entire site to advertise on yours.
I would never worry about such problems you seem to create in your mind - worry about high quality content pages, and you attract highest quality advertisers far above the limits of cheap advertisers. I have ZERO filters and more than 500 different adsense advertisers keywords on my site - most of them are high paying keywords and hence I enjoy a spam free high end advertiser population on all my pages ... and accordingly I enjoy an excellent 2 digits CTR/eCPM average on my site that keeps OFF all the spammers.
The free market competition always is the best natural filter - you own editors qualifications are the best filter for you to ATTRACT high end advertisers.
And if for any reason you really have no faith in the secured pages Adsense feature - then you are always free to have adsense removed from all login-pages such as I have.

Yes, I've read that feature on Google Blog: http://adsense.blogspot.com/2007/07/more-sleep-for-adsense-crawler.html
But I have not found that option (Site Autentication) on my Adsense Account.
Do you know where is located or how to enable that feature ?

most likely about the maximum you may get out of a gallery site with adsense
gallery average monthly CTR varying between 5-10 % - so eCPM
my site wide averages are all in 2 digits CTR/eCPM - gallery being one of the most expensive/resource consuming site-section with the absoute lowest adsense revenue areas - yet most others seem to have far less than 5% CTR on galleries. ( good content pages always are more than 10% if properly done - such as my blog, etc.

fewer ads surely may look "more profesional" if money is no problem to oyu
i have a large website - full time - with ten thousands $ of expenses / year - lots of charity to be paid and other expenses and all is free
hence only a truly optimized adsense site gets me free of troubles and allows a professional work with top of tthe line root server and HW for work
anything different of smaller DEFINITELY will drastically reduce your adsense reveneu.
as you surely have carefully READ/studied Google adsense help pages, then you know that ONLY the 3 formats I use are the 3 succewssful formats - anything else or smaller is by far less successful - and thus paying far less $!!!
I am 3+ years into adsense - have tested all formats and displays - and invested MANY hundreds of hours in researching/testing adsense formats and color schemes and found that that is truly about the maximum you get out of a web site - from another professional webmaster forum I know by comparing to other professional full time publishers' data that I am far above average in the top end of my adsense revenue success ( CTR/eCPM) - wise ). maximum optimization helps me to easily afford thousands of miles of travel by sea/air/land to make ten thousands of shots / yr and do all my combined work easily witho9iut any $-problems
earlier with no or near zero adsense-$ i was relying on donations only for charity programs. now I can plan free of any donations - all out of adsense alone.
hence if you earn plenty of money by other means,selling pics or whatever -. then you have no need for efficiency and may even better opt for NO adsnese at all.
It helps me little to "look professional and starve to death and go cheapest in server, work and all else.
my maximum adsense optimization helps me to do professional work having a MOST efficient adsense layout and $-revenue and the ever growing site traffic - overall as well as on the gallery shows that people never mind the ads as long as they get excellent pics and info for FREE.
when you think stingy in ad space - compare to world's'TOP publishers such as times, newsweek and national geography ...
how many percent of total space do THEY give to advertisers
$do they give trash-space or TOP placements ?
are they UN-professional just because the absolute top placements of their publications are reserved for top paying advertisers ?
apparently NO because they succeeded in their endeavor since decades
