In G1 I made a modification for zoomify where you could zoom into parts of an image. It worked well but required the user to “slice” up the image to be served and displayed with the flash player.

A while ago I was requested to see if I could do the same for G2. I have given it some thought. Since the Google Map API can do this with maps why not an image? So here is a proof of concept and would like some feedback:
http://gallery2.ca/test/customMaptile.htm

I envision a module – that would have a interface to add the google map API
Set the starting zoom level.
Set the copy write info.
The max and min zoom level.
You would be able to set permissions on a per-album basis.
You would be able to add a link from the thumb and photo pages that would take you to a new page that would load – similar to the example.

Drawbacks :
-- the full image must be loaded (very bandwidth extensive)
-- if the image is very large the browser becomes VERY slow and might crash.

Advantages:
-- Easy to implement (I hope)
-- Easy to administer.

Questions :
Would this be a module that people would be interested in?
Ideas?

Dave

Hi Floridave,
I'm working on a module that can be interesting for you. It use IIPImage and the code of the module is based on the zoomify + panorama modules. more info at http://gallery.menalto.com/node/80713

Cheers,
Denis
