I would like to know what would be involved with sharing photos between Gallery2 and pixelpost. Does anyone have any experience with this, or know what might be entailed?
having read conversations between photoblog/photo-a-day enthusiasts and G2 developers, efforts are now being made to add more ease of functionality (eventually through themes) to mimic the behavior, similar to that of Pixelpost, and even better (perhaps, even an import tool to migrate Pixelpost-data over to G2). once upon a time, Pixelpost was the king of the hill with "photoblog" or "photo-a-day" sort of projects. that won't be the case in about a year or so, maybe less - why? because lots of folks are cooking up alternatives, including those written in RoR (ruby on rails).
some tidbits about each platform, based on personal experience:
Pixelpost store user-submitted images in two locations. /images/ (full-size) and /thumbnails/ , both of which are in the web root.
by default, G2 uses a directory called "g2data" - or whatever name the user wants, which can be situated outside (highly recommended) or within the web root.
Pixelpost only supports one graphics toolkit, GD which must be compiled with PHP.
Gallery 2 supports external tookits like ImageMagick & NetPBM and GD (as the last resort) - the choice is yours, baby.

Interesting.
From an efficiency point of view, it would be nice to store my photos within Gallery but have pixelpost access to them too.
I'm also testing out Wordpress for photoblog. It is nice in that I can customize a lot of functionality with it. However, there are simple things that I can't figure out how to do in Wordpress. I haven't looked into incorporating the wp photoblog with G2 by the way of wpg2 (althoug I do use wpg2 on my regular blog). On the wp photoblog I am storing the photos on zooomr.com.
What are some other photoblog projects I should look into?
