No Highlight - not able to set album highlights after upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5.4

Hello all I have done a lot of combing and searching of the forums here, easily an hour or more and couldn't find an answer that worked. I upgraded my gallery from 1.4 to 1.5.4, and everything seems to be working just fine. The problem is when I (or other users) try to set a new image as a highlight for their album, it comes up No Highlight. Here is the output for the debugging util.php::208 -> Getting Dimension of file: XXXXX/albums/album41/10261_G.png It looks like my paths are right, not sure how to fix this. Please help, thanks Rich |

do .jpg images work as highlights?

JPG does work, weird. All the images I use in the gallery are PNG files though. I wonder why the highlights worked before (version 1.4)?? Nothing changed on the server as far as the version of netpbm or imagemagick. Any ideas?

Somthing must have changed.
test the binaries with he config wiz, perhaps png is not supported anymore?

It says:
NetPBM Installed - 13 of 13 NetPBM binaries located
ImageMagick Installed - 3 of 3 ImageMagick binaries located
I can add images (png files and jpg files are all there are in there). The highlights of albums that have been unchanged are still there (albums where people haven't changed their highlight since the upgrade)
Any clues? Please help, thanks

Or just looking for the safest way to revert back to 1.4, or a version that will allow me to just do what I was doing before. I'd rather be able to use the new version, but i'd rather not spend this much time trying. Any tips on going back with success?

rerun the config wizard and under the technical tab turn of debug mode.

I had to turn off developer mode, forgot that was on
I still cannot create album highlights, the error is this:
util.php::208 -> Getting Dimension of file: /albums/album198/13243_G.png
imageManipulation.php::541 -> Generating squared Version to 150px
imageManipulation.php::562 -> No Cropping Done
imageManipulation.php::36 -> Resizing Image: /albums/album198/13243_G.highlight.png
util.php::208 -> Getting Dimension of file: /albums/album198/13243_G.highlight.png
util.php::211 -> The file does not exist ?!
imageManipulation.php::67 -> No resizing required
I've tried both NETPBM and ImageMagick, neither one makes a difference. This worked, and still works with Gallery 1.4. Why is this not working for Gallery 1.5.4? I have tried going back to 1.4 and now i'm getting errors. I've also lost a ton of albums as well, not sure how that could have happened. I've spent hours now searching the forums here, this is really frustrating! Any help would be appreciated thanks

Restoring your backup is the only real way of downgrading.
Are you 100% sure png's work on 1.4? That really doesn't make any sense.

Yes, i'm positive, I just tested it again using version 1.4.5. Creates a highlight without error. No kidding around here. I backed up my original gallery folder, but not the albums (it's a lot of megs)
Does gallery change anything in the albums folders during upgrade to newer versions? I have a version of gallery2 installed that I tried out, the load times were pretty slow and it was truncating descriptions so I gave up on it. Does installing and doing an import from gallery 1 to gallery 2 change anything in the albums folders that could be creating this problem?

Just grabbing at straws.....does standard (non square) thumbs work?
Migrating to G2 does not alter G1 items.

I have the higlight ratio set to "as the original image". i just tried it as sqaure but it's the same deal

Set up a test album and PM (write to author) the details and turn on debug mode or send me the admin username and password.

This is weird. I was able to get a highlight image only if the image was different than the 300x300 image.
* I took the 300x300 image and tried on my install of 1.4.5 and it works.
* changed From IM to netpbm and tested again same results (no highlight is created)
* installed a 300x300 image on your server and it did not work.
* installed a larger image on your server and it worked.
* installed a 300x300 image on your server and used the crop thumbnail applet (very slight crop) and then selected it as a highlight and it worked.
I guess that is a work around but still at a loss as to why.
zorkii, if you don't mind you can post the url to that album and give permissions for others to test.
Perhaps h0bble or Tim_j has a idea.

Anybody has a solution on this yet? I'm having the same problem with 1.5.7.
