I would say Gallery 2, basically just because of the sitemap module where it will actually push your links to Google for you.

Now this is my area - I use G1 be cause you can do a lot of SEo with the script and I can tell you it works my record is 50.000 unique visits a day.
Sitmap is ok, but you can also create that your self and google do spider your site without a site map. dont put that much weight on that.
I have tried G2, but quickly got back to G1 be cause of SEo stuff

Hi
G1 isnt necessarilly better than G2, or vice versa. In both instances you may need to do some customisation to ensure that your meta tags are in place, that the url's are seo friendly, your images have alt tags and your links have title tags. A google sitemap xml document goes a long way as well if you've registered your site and told google that it's there.
I'm assuming that you've submitted your site to google and done some ranking checks for your keywords to ensure that you've got the right keywords for your content

Speaking of SEO. is there a way to make the URL of your gallery more search engine friendly?? I notice which brosing albums that the url send with things like main.php?g2_itemId=14
Can you get it to say display site.com/albumname/page/ ??? I know you can get this soft of thing for wordpress and vbulletin, but haven't found anything of gallery2 ??

For the core viewing of items, rewrite module goes a long way. If you do not want "?g2_itemId=n" added to other gallery2 navigation (e.g.- keyword albums) you will need to personally edit a few template (.tpl) and include files (.inc). I'm looking into SEO for gallery right now and removing "g2_itemId" is where I think I'm going to start.
IMHO, it wasn't wise to make an item's keywords link to the page of the keyword album that the item exists on--instead the beginning of the keyword album.

I've never used Gallery1, so I cannot comment on that. I would say either one would be fine if you can check off the lists of SEO techniques that places such as SEObook recommend. I know there are a lot of Wordpress SEO pages out there. Use some of their ideology and customize Gallery.
