I have MOD Rewrite enabled on my Gallery.
All my images have good keywords and descriptions.

When i go through my website to my gallery pages i get URL's like this:

http://www.aerialphotographyforyou.co.uk/search/main.php/v/Brighton/WEST_PIER1.jpg.html

However if i do a search on Google Images West_Pier1.jpg does not show!

If i search on Google web search for West_pier1 then i get this a s the URL:

http://www.aerialphotographyforyou.co.uk/search/main.php?g2_itemId=65

Why is it not showing the search friendly URL's?

And how do i get my images on Image search?

Probably it just takes some time until google updates its cache.

It certainly helps if you use g2's google sitemap module and submit that sitemap to google.

Also, if you want to get rid of the main.php/ part in the new URLs, uninstall the url rewrite module, install it again and choose "mod_rewrite" when configuring instead of pathinfo.

I have a sitemap and have reinstalled mod_rewrite like you said...

am still getting http://www.aerialphotographyforyou.co.uk/search/main.php?g2_itemId=65

Does it make a difference to Google bots having Deny All in my .htaccess file?

Give google some time... i'm talking about weeks here.

dependy on what you deny. obviously you're not denying access to image / html files, thus no, that shouldn't have any influence.

because you switched your short URL style from pathinfo (with main.php/) to mod_rewrite.
google has now invalid urls in their search index.

resubmit your google sitemap and wait some time.

g2.2 has a google sitemap module.
see: docs -> installation -> installing additional components -> plugins.

from the docs:

Quote:
Modules and themes are both Gallery 2 plugins.

Quote:
Gallery 2.2+: You can install plugins via Site Admin -> Plugins in the Get More Plugins tab.

Quote:
Gallery 2.0 / 2.1: Users of Gallery 2.1.2 and older versions (e.g. 2.0) need to follow the manual plugin installation instructions.

that's all from:
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Installing_Additional_Components

1. identify your g2 version. g2.2 or g2.1 or even older?
2. use the appropriate instructions to install new plugins.

so are you advising me to upgrade Gallery 2 from Gallery version = 2.1.2 core 1.1.0.2 or to use user plugins?

I already have Google sitemap under the export heading on admin so cant figure out what you are advising.....

All i can find on the official downloads is the same google sitemap module i already have!!

first you say

> actually i do not have a sitemap installed like i thought..

now you say

> I already have Google sitemap under the export heading on admin so cant figure out what you are advising.....

if the google sitemap module is active already, there's no need to install it again.

ok sorry about all that confusion

i did not realise just having it installed was enough to get my web site gallery mapped automatically!!

Do i not have to upload a sitemap still anywhere or Gallery 2 google sitemap module does it all?

it is not. i assume you read the instructions in the site admin -> google sitemap page about submitting / registering the sitemap at google.
