I'm using Gallery 2.2.2, and have installed the HTTP Authentication module.
However, nothing seems to have happened, and yea I've clicked on the "Use HTTP Authentication" checkbox in it.
But nothing seems to have happened. Now, my thoughts are that when you're using HTTP Auth, when you click on the "Login" link, you should get a little pop-up window that asks for your username and password. Am I thinking of something else, or is this right? Because when I click on the Login button, I get the regular login page asking for username and password. I'd rather use HTTP Auth (the little popup box I mentioned), since it's my understanding that that's a bit more secure than just sending your username and password in the clear via the regular login page.
Any ideas? Or am I thinking of entirely the wrong thing?
I'm using the Carbon Theme, if it matters (though I've tried with a couple of other themes and it doesn't seem to have made a difference).

I did not see a customization question so I moved the post the the Troubleshooting and Problems forum.

Thanks. Sorry I put it in the wrong place.
Now, hopefully someone will know how to fix my problem *grin*.

no.
browse to a admin page or use webdav and it will trigger the http auth popup.

Even if you click the option that says to use the authentication plugins for all modules? I click on "site admin" after logging in, but since I'm already logged in, it doesn't seem to need me to authenticate again. The help page for the HTTP Auth module doesn't say anything about WebDAV, but it does say in the description, "Login using HTTP Authentication." Which sure sounds like what I described my understanding of what it should be to be.
I guess I'm just confused with how Gallery is trying to use it. Either that, or I found a bug.

yes, even then.
the http-auth module has mainly been added to g2 for webdav because most webdav clients rely on http-auth and can't do auth using cookies.
that's why the http-auth module doesn't do anything visible for you once it's activated. but if you were using webdav, you'd see that it works.
since you've enabled the "use for all modules" option, logout and browse to the site admin URL to get the popup if you really want to see it...

That's the weird part - I've already done that. I don't get the popup - ever. Not matter *where* I go in my gallery. Oh wait, you mean just directly type in the "admin/" directory?
Well, I guess it's not that big of a deal. Since apparently it doesn't do what I want it to do (and what its name, and description in the online help page for it, suggests that it *should* be doing), I'll just go ahead and uninstall/delete it.
Thanks for your time.
