All,

Wordpress 2.5 has introduced a number of new features, including updates of the tinymce editor, hashed passwords and a heap of other changes (including what I feel is a crap UI). Unfortunately the scope of these changes have broken the WPG2 in a number of critical areas thus for now Please DO NOT upgrade to Wordpress 2.5 when released until WPG2 3.05 is ready for release..

Edit WPG2 3.0.5 has now been released for Wordpress 2.5. Please download the updated plugin from Wordpress Extend

Ah, I'm very VERY glad I saw this - I literally was about to push the button to install WP2.5 RC2 when I saw this.

I'm REALLY keen to get WP2.5 in, but I see WPG2 3.05 is 47% ready at the moment. Is there likely to be any hotfixes or workarounds for the time being?
Or is there a timescale?

Thanks for the info - I'll try and spread the word on this!

No work around, WP pretty much has broken a number of key features, I expect that 47% number to up and down while I continue to test and discover what else is broken. For now I have already encountered one major issue with the new hashing of WP passwords that most likely will result in heavy delays and modifications to Gallery2 to get the user password sync working again..

Hi ozgreg,

Will this plugin speed things up?

Yeah I saw that posted and had a laugh because I had already added the MD5 unhashing code to WPG2 to address the hashing issue. FYI that plugin will only unhash the account already logged in which is kind of hopeless because all WP accounts get hashed on upgrade which is the issue I am grappling with because I do not want hashed passwords getting sync'd over to Gallery2..

I suspect this is going to be in two phases, reverting to MD5 to get WPG2 3.05 up and out and eventually adding hooks into Gallery2 most likely in G2.3 and me writing a Gallery2 phpass hashing plugin to handle WP Hashes.

are there any date for the next release of WPG2?

I do not use the tinymce editor. Is it possible update to the new version of WP 2.5 without break the principal fuctions of wpg2 (for example the name of thephoto gallery or modrewrite)?

Thanks!

Best regards

Hiya Calvin,

We are working on the many issues that WP 2.5 has produced as quickly as we can, please see the Roadmap for progress on resolving the issues..

Oops... I've updated to WP2.5, but I'm not seeing any ill effects. Is this not going to bite me until my G2 session times out (~2 weeks I think)?

Yeah it is going to bite you in a few places, any passwords sync from WP will result in you not being able to login to that G2 account.. A heap of display issues, WP got some new stylesheets which break and put WPG2 options all over the place, including break some validation checks etc.. The G2 image tool is broken, the Tinymce button insertion for G2image is not working, G2image language locales are not working, WPG2 language locales are not working, adding WPG2 widgets can be problematic.. and no doubt a few more along the way..

Some of these issues have been fixed but we got some steps to go still..

I can literally wait for years:) I'm scared of changes and WP 2.5 is a big change, plus I would never want to destroy a gallery with 25 000-ish images so...just a thank you for your work and don't feel like you have to work at rocket-speed because of us! This plugin saved me so much time and it even made up for 2.5 years of (really)bad SEO. I'm thankful, not impatient.

I will just not change any of my passwords then!

Also, I never really liked the gui way of picking images. I'll just keep doing it manually like always.

Looking forward to next WPG2 :)

Hey, thanks for the heads up on WP 2.5 incompatibility. Will wait till WPG2 is released (and if necessary I'll wait till Gallery2 new release is out as well).

Thanks for all the great work!

For everyone following this thread I hit a pretty large roadblock with the changes to how WP stores User Passwords.. Basically I knew it would break user syncing but I underestimated the impact of the issue so I been working with the G2 Developers to work out how we can find a way around this issue for Gallery2 2.3 with an eventually full fix to be implemented in Gallery2 2.4 so I can resume development on WPG2 3.05 :)

Actually, for most except WPG2 installations, it's nothing bigger than literally two clicks! And once you have it - wow. Plugins that update themselves etc...worth looking forward to!

I don't know how extensive the issues are. I've just upgraded to WP2.5 (without seeing this, do'oh) and I was initially getting a ton of "* WPG2 Plugin Not Validated *" errors where my pics should have been. But then I went back to the front page of the blog and saw that my sidebar Random Image and Album Tree are both working. Then going back into some of the entries with Gallery2 pics embedded, they seemed ok. The linking back to G2 seems ok. I don't do any serious G2 work in WP, I just link to G2 images.

I see someone's posted about the G2 session timing out (~2 weeks). Is this configurable? If so where do I go check to see when mine's due to expire?

I've been re-working my site in a beta fashion with wp2.5, g2.3-svn (latest) and wpg2 3.0.2 and everything works, but I did finally see the bug. G2 has recently added (I think?) and admin time out that is pretty short (max of 2 hours!), and finally now when I hit WP, then goto WPG2 embeded gallery, then goto "site admin" I get re-directed and it fails.

I was also having trouble logging into stand alone G2, I imagine WP reset my G2 password to their new hash instead of a real password, but I was able to use pw reset link and log in. It still works stand alone, and worked for a few hours embeded... but it fails now. So I see where the issue comes up.

It isn't horrible, I'll deal with it until it gets fixed. Once I get things setup right, I rarely visit G2's site admin anyway... so having to do it outside my wp isn't horrible.

I'll be happy to see wpg2 3.0.X when it comes out though! :)

Anyone use WP2.5's built in photo gallery feature? It's pretty good! The only thing I can't figure out is how to make individual albums contain photos.

Hmmm, perhaps it's not all as bad as I thought - I use a theme called Vslider3, which tightly integrates G2 and WP2.x using WPG2. I thought this would be a killer, but it SEEMS to be working...check the comments, why would this be?

Most of the WPG2 functionality will work in WP 2.5 as I posted, G2 User Passwords will be invalid due to the new WP Password Hashing, G2 Image Tool does not work within TinyMCE. A fist full of CSS alignment issues for the WPG2 Options screens and some issues around WPG2 Widgets. WPG2 will still log you into G2, that aspect works well, however you will NOT be able to log into Gallery2 directly as your password will not be recognised by G2

The upgrade seems to have broken G2's ability to act as a page on my website. But, it seems like others seem to have this working still. How would I go about embedding my gallery back into my site? http://pbriscoe.com/wpg2. Thanks for any help!

Hi,

I upgraded yesterday my wordpress to version 2.5 (without reading this). After that I upgraded to wpg2 version 2.3.0.2.
My blog is working fine, but I have the blank page issue, when i try to bind in a album in a new post. If I click on the WPG2 link on my blogs main page I get always redirected to my blogs main page (as it is configured to redirect in case of errors.) I already tried the php memory solution, it does not work, even with 128M.

Just to get things clear: is this because of the incompatibility of wp2.5 and wpg2?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I have WPMU installed, v.2.3 and wpg2 3.0 - everything so far is working fine.
Exception: it requires a htacess writable file in the wp root and I have no clue what to put in to the htaccess file.
Searched all over, could not find anything. Only on the old embedd gallery2 forum, which is totally outdated and states that the htaccess rules they show are outdated.
Please, can anyone help me with this.
Rewrite mod in gallery2 is activated and does show 'success' in wp,
the only thing I am missing is the htaccess.file.

Would really appreciate if someone knows what exactly has to be in the file.
Thanks,
Michele

The only thing that does NOT work at all in wp is now the "album tree" widget. It shows correctly on the page, but all links are broken and produce 404. So I simply don't use it for now. Lightbox also does not seem to work properly, it simply opens up new browser window and shows the large image.

where is it written that all our dreams have to be small ones....

Yay! :D

By the way, ozgreg, can you give me clarification on " - 0000037: [Bug] text formatting tags within the title of the photo - new." I was having a problem

I hope my question is in place, even thought it's not related to this particular release. Basically, is it any related to HTML tags being displayed in the alt tag of an album thumbnail in the sidebar grid block? Or is that not a bug at all?

Regarding this release, does the release of WP 2.5.1 change or delay anything?

Unfortunately we cannot control the ALT tag of the Album not until we move away from imageblock functionality.. :( I had to bump #37 to 3.1 as I cannot get the control I need to correctly insert the lightbox tags. This will be addressed when we move away from the G2 imageblock module.

I have never tried this, adding HTML to the Album Name show up as HTML tags in the alt image tag?

activebiz,

Your links will be broken because of the issues you are having with the .htaccess file.. Please see this topic on managing and creating a WP .htaccess file..

Looks like things are working :). I just have one small issue. When I view my gallery normally, everything looks fine. When I view it through the wpg2 path, my text is blown up quite a bit. The funny thing is that the header text (like the Site Admin link) looks fine, but all of the rest of the text (album names, etc) is blown up and ugly. Any idea why this would be happening?

You can compare them here:

Thank you!

Yeah that be the usual battle of the font CSS settings between your Gallery2 and Wordpress Themes.. Sorry no easy fix for that, but plenty of tips over in the CSS forum (see the sticky note for details)

Yes the Roadmap just went 100% meaning development has completed for 3.05. I am just unit testing the code and waiting for a small bug to be fixed in g2image before we will release to WP Extend.. Expect to see the update notice in your WP Panels in the next week (unless something else major pop's up)

Great!:)

What would you recommend us to do first: upgrade to WP 2.5 or upgrade the plugin?

Also, I think I even confused myself with my previous question, as my problem with alt tags is suddenly gone. I apologise.

Hi
I tried the beta of wpg2 plugin. But it doesn't validate. I get an error that the relative path gallery2 to wpg2 is not correct. But it seems to me that the ../ in a path isn't interpreted correctly...

No that is incorrect, the ../ is definitely being evaluated. Remember this is the path FROM your gallery2 installation back to WPG2. WPG2 will try to find this path on WPG2 activation. Did you deactivate the plugin before upgrading?

Great! Ok captain ;-).
Is there any good order to do that? :
1- desactivate wpg2
2- upgrade wpg2
3- upgrade wordpress
4- activate wpg2

Deactivate all plugins, upgrade Wordpress to 2.5, upgrade WPG2 3.05 and activate all the plugins, validate wpg2 should do the trick

Where do you generally post updates to Beta versions ozgreg? Thanks!

Generally we have an automatic development snapshot being generated just after the SVN build for anyone to use.. SVN Stables updates are generally (manually) mirrored directly to WP in the WPG2 trunk directory and can be downloaded from the Extend page (link up the top)

When I get 3.05 settled down I will post some better links so everyone can see roadmaps and snapshots etc..

Downloaded, installed (3.05 17:57 27/04/2008), working on WP 2.5.1 - nice work :-)

A couple of minor tweaks were needed to make it behave:

1) On activating, it seems to get confused by there already being a WPG2 page, and creates a new one with the slug wpg2-2. I think the previous version did that, too. Not a big problem, and easy enough to fix, but it did confuse my header menu.

2) This might be a customisation I made and forgot about, but the layout of the embedded page is different - text is bigger, mainly. Probably just a class name or something...

3) Had to manually add the relative path from Gallery to WPG2 on the paths page, again not a problem for me, but did cause momentary alarm.

But all in all - great stuff. Waiting for WPG2 was the only thing stopping me from upgrading to WP2.5, so now I'm nicely up to date - thanks again.

I get this - it seems to be because the title tag is output above everything else (including the doctype), which causes the page to be displayed in Quirks mode.

I'm not familiar enough with wordpress plugin development to see how I would fix this I'm afraid.

Hmmm nice spot, I never noticed that, the title actually is generated twice, once on the initial page loading, and again a little further down.. That is a tad weird I will look into this..

Have not seen this issue for a long time.. On deactivation WPG2 will remove the WPG2 Page and on activation create a new WPG2 Page. I have added BTEV logging events to capture this in 3.05 so it will be an interesting test to see what is logged when 3.05 is released..

It may fix your problem.
