I've read http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt and I see this phrase:

Quote:
0. PREAMBLE

The purpose of this License is to make a manual, textbook, or other
functional and useful document "free" in the sense of freedom: to
assure everyone the effective freedom to copy and redistribute it,
with or without modifying it, either commercially or noncommercially.
Secondarily, this License preserves for the author and publisher a way
to get credit for their work, while not being considered responsible
for modifications made by others.

My question is - I run a paysite and members pay to see my content. Can I use Gallery in my member’s section to organize my pictures/videos?

I think I could as long as Gallery gets credit for the software?

Thanks :)

I don't know why you mention the GNU FDL. Gallery 2 is licensed under the GNU GPL. FDL is for documentation, textbooks. GPL is for software. Gallery 2 is a software product.

And yes, you can use Gallery 2 on your website any way you want it to.
The GPL mainly regulates the distribution of software, not the usage. You can use it anyway you want it to. If you want to redistribute the software / modifications to the software, only then you need to worry about the GPL (that is, making all your modifications freely available).
If you just install a Gallery 2 installation on your server(s) and generate revenue with it some way, you don't have to look at the GPL at all because it lets you use the software anyway you want to.

Actually I have one other question.

So I can modify Gallery 2 any way I want in terms of the look and remove the Gallery branding as well?

As mentioned I am not interested in redistributing the software - only making use of it in my members section but of course I'd like to customize it.

correct. as long as you don't redistribute your changes. if you redistribute your changes, your changes must be licensed under the GPL as well.

yes, you can change everything, remove any reference to our website etc.
