Hello,

A while back this forum confinced me to switch to cirtexhosting.
I had a great service and the installation using Fantastico work great.

Now I constanlty run into trouble:
Upgrade's offerd using Fabtastico do not work.
Even a new instllation using their install script does not work.

After I made a call to the helpdesk they say:
We could not do antything for the 3rd party software. Please refer with your programmer regarding this.

I would suggest to take them of the "Gallery Certified Web Hosts" list.

Henk-Jan,

I have tried Cirtex aswell for a year, there problem is that they are constantly upgrading there software and make a lot of mistakes with the directory rights, and they can't get it right.

Ask them to ceck if the directory rights in your account are okay, Gallery is very sentive on this. I moved to Hostgator now, works better, never submitted a ticket to these guys over the last 6 monts while in one year with Cirtex I had about 221 support tickets submitted

I agree take Cirtex of the certified hosts list, they can't keep them running.

If you want to have more control over your Gallery installation NEVER USE FANTASTICO but just download the binaries from here to make your installation.

Kind regards

This time it was "an incorrect php memory_limit" for my domain.

Take a look at this post, http://blog.apthost.com/?p=12

Some hosts have the tendancy to limit you on certain aspects, so it is almost impossible to use near 100% of your disk space or bandwidth.

Oops! That sounds pretty bad, dbdev. Move over to hostgator, if nothing else you will get good support.

Hi!

I've using Gallery with Cirtex for some months now and it has been a nightmare. I had to reinstall and I could recover the data form a backup but in a couple of day it run into problems again. I have to admit that I have not written to them about it, but last time I asked them about something they were not helpful at all.

I'm changing to another hosting and I also suggest to take them out from the servers list.

Hi

We've been continuously improving our services in the past years and there have been problems every now and then due to hardware issues but if you are still experiencing any issues, please contact our helpdesk and ask for level 3 team or management if your issue isn't resolved.

Cheers

Help! Help!! “CIRTEX.COM” is an unreliable and fraudulent hosting company!!

Hello,

I registered my domain with CIRTEX.COM on the 2nd March 2008 and paid US$131.88 for the economy hosting plan. I completed the transfer of my website to the new domain on the 5th March. Thereafter, I noticed that the server was down for some hours everyday.
On the 10th of March, I noticed that my website was not available. I opened a ticket at the CIRTEX Support centre and after some hours, received the reply that “... the lucky server had crashed”.
I demanded that my website be recovered from their backup system. I received no reply. On the 11th March, I demanded the cancellation of my contract and the refund of my payment within the 30 days money-back guarantee. I received a reply to fill-out and submit the cancellation form which I immediately did. I was informed that the cancellation would be processed within 24 hours.
On the 12th March, I received mails that all tickets have been closed and no mention of the refund of my payment was made. This is ridiculous and fraudulent! Please inform others about this incident in order to avoid falling prey to unreliable hosting companies like CIRTEX.COM.

Regrettably I too am going to have to agree that cirtex falls down on reliability, pre-emptive action, and communications. Whilst some periods are better than others, my monitoring services too often report that my site is down. Response to tickets almost always fails to deal with root cause issues leaving the same problem to reoccur. Communication is poor.

The good news is the price is right. Fine for a infrequently-accessed personal site like mine maybe, though it is frustrating, but I'd be very wary about hosting a commercial site with them.

don't waste your time. their quality and reliability has really gone downhill lately. As I write, my sites have been down for close to 24 hours, and they're supposedly moving the entire server over to a new machine... usually, you'd wait till the transfer was complete before switching the dns to the new machine, but Cirtex likes to live on the edge and does it right at the start.

There was no warning on what should have been a planned maintenance outage, and it's taken way too long.

If this was the only thing, maybe I could deal... but in the past months, there have been chronic downtimes, email outages, and odd instances where all the permissions on my Gallery2 files get reset, breaking all my sites.

The one thing I can say is that the tech support is fast... maybe not in English, but fast... just wish the level 1 tech support could do more than post back poorly written canned responses to the same old issues.

I agree that tech support is fairly fast, as long as its an obvious fault, but its the same problems every time: no (obvious) attempt to deal with the root causes, nor install systems to notify and deal with problems.

So, given that services at the bottom end of the price bracket are probably subject to variable reliability, how do we assess who's good at the moment?

I should have added:

Availability statistics for my site are available at http://www.joomlamonitor.com/publicreport/73581/17131/1/49672

(I believe probes are hourly so any outage that doesn't cross its probes will go undetected. Conversely outages that occur just before the probe but are resolved quickly could be recorded as longer than they really are.)

Wow, this thread is shocking to me. I had been with Iteraweb and experienced all the troubles you guys are mentioning here with Cirtex!! I switched to HostV (VPS hosting, but owned by Cirtex) a couple months ago and have been thrilled with them!

We had a few problems in the early going, but when you are trying to move 30GB (15,000 photos in our gallery) from one server to another, speedbumps are inevitable. HostV support has consistently been fast, friendly, and efficient!

Now, granted, we are paying $80/month for our VPS package, but in web hosting, as in most things - you get what you pay for...

I can't speak directly to Cirtex and their product/service since HostV is an offshoot/branch of the Cirtex parent company, but I will say that if you need a robust, high volume, high-resource web hosting solution, HostV is "The Shizzle"!!
