http://en.flash-ripper.com/2007/haxe-flv-video-streaming-multithread-server-now-with-webcam-and-mic-recording/

i just stumbled across this.

it would be ace if the gallery2 flashvideo module could be extended to use this. it allows people to directly record from their webcam onto the server.

even better would be if you could "post replies" with other flashvideos like on youtube. this would really expand the scope of it.

someone should getting working on this, its beyond me i think.

There's no way that would work. Besides the fact that the server referred to in that article only works on Windows:
The server is not something that a normal user could install
It uses the haXe language, which in turn requires Neko VM
In order to do anything with that server in PHP, you'd basically just have to pass commands to it using exec(), which is disabled by some hosts who see it as a security risk (it is only a security risk if you don't have your server configured properly)

point. haXe wont work on linux.

i'm talking about the idea here though.

there must be some way to do this thats not on windows.

i somehow doubt youtube uses windows servers. the idea is quite laughable actually. and yet they can do it.

it'd be really quite advanced obviously. but it must be possible.

that'd put gallery way ahead of the competition.

imagine being able to record from your webcam straight into gallery and post and reply via video.

that is real "web 2.0" material. whatever that is.

downloaded some facebook nulled clone version a bit ago. notice it had this in it:

Player Settings
Mencoder path
Mplayer path
Webcam capture time limit Seconds
Red5 path
Recorder path
Red5 Flv Stored Path
Flvtool2 Path
Red5 Server Path

i presume these tool make it possible to capture video straight from a webcam over the browser, t hat correct? gallery2 would be so cool if you could do this, and reply to things as a video. I don't know how much people would use it, just more the fact that you could be able to do it!

any comments!
