Hello everyone.

Lucky and happy user of Gallery 2 since few years, I discovered my provider enforce a limit of 25000 files (although the disk quota in Gb is huge! anyway...).
Now, looking at my gallery2 directory, I get:

~/gallery/ 49227 files
~/gallery/g2data/ 36593 files
~/gallery/g2data/cache/ 29019 files
~/gallery/g2data/albums/ 7463 files

This right after a database/template cache delete from the maintenance menu in my gallery site admin.
Now, how is it possible that for 7463 pictures, I get 49226 total files? and more important, how do I reduce this number? Consider that I tried to reduce the number of plugins, so now I have 38 of them up-to-date and 11 un-installed, for a total of 49...

Any suggestion/explanation will be welcome :)

(Gallery version = 2.2.4 core 1.2.0.6)

Are you using any language files? You can delete them if you are not using them. http://gallery.menalto.com/node/69621#comment-251089
In the future G2 will ship with no extra language files and be available via downloable plugins.

Each item has 2 or more derivatives one thumb and one or more resizes. Then there is language files, cache for each page viewed.

We are working toward this (making G2 smaller).

Thanks for the suggestion, but still...

I have already only 49 modules/plugins, which I think are necessary, and only two themes (wordpressembedded and matrix). The language files for each module are no more than 35, which still doesn't make it up to 2000 files in total.
Even if I delete these 2000 files, I'm still stuck with 7500 pictures and 47000 files in total for the gallery... something doesn't sound right here ;)

Basically, for every picture in the gallery, I have 6 files in average. How's this possible?!?

we have about 5 files per item. the item's file, the entity cache, a thumb, a resize(s), cache files for thumb and resize. Then there is all the gallery files, most of which are language files/folders.

Are you sure you use all of them? Each module has about 80-100+ language file/folders.

Ah, I see now also tons of language folders under ~/gallery/modules/[modulename]/locale/
Can I delete these as well and leave only the en_GB?

you can delete them all if you just want en_US since that's g2's default / built-in language. if you want en_GB too you can keep that of course.

but as floridave pointed out, this won't help you much. you'll bring down the installation files from 10000 to 4000 maybe, or so. with 8000 pictures you'll still have ~ 5 * 8000 + 4000 files. (these are all coarse estimations.)
