When trying to add pics to my Gallery via URL I get an error that it cannot open the URL. I have been doing this for over a year now and all of a sudden it quit working. I have read through the forums and have tried posted suggestions for similar issues but none of those have resolved my issue. Any ideas? Thanks!

What kind of basic information? I use Gallery v1. I use FileZilla for FTP'ing. I've always been able to FTP .jpg files to a folder under my public_html and then choose url and key that in the url and it would bring up all of the .jpg files in that folder and I would uncheck the pictures I didn't not want and click on upload. I have not changed anything with my Gallery and now the url function does not work. I tried to use the java applet, but it did not load all of the selected pictures.

Okay,

Did your hoster maybe switch from php4 to php5?
Gallery 1.5.x is only compatible with PHP5 from 1.5.3 on.

If they did, they didn't inform me. Is there an easy way I could check that?
Thanks!

I ran the Gallery Configuration Wizard: Step 1 and this is what it says:
Check to see if you are running PHP 4.1.0 or greater. Since Gallery 1.4.5 Gallery needs at least PHP 4.1.0, this is due to that some versions of PHP have bugs that cause Gallery to fail and that older Version does not have required functionality.
Success PHP v4.4.7 is OK.
I guess that means they did switch...is that something I would need to take up with them?

Thanks for all of your help!

Hmm, i made some PHP 4.4.x fixes for Gallery 1.5.1, but i don't know if they are related to this bug.

I suggest you install a complete separate Gallery 1.5.7 and test if the URL upload works.
If yes, i suggest an upgrade. If not, write again here and we will find a solution.

Hello Gary,

we can't know in which folder you installed your Gallery ...

Have a look where you installed gallery.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for answering me. I really don't know much about this. Do you mean on my computer?

Hi Gary,

no. On the webserver.

Did you install Gallery? Or someone else?
If it was you, did you do it via a control panel, or for example via FTP?

Jens,
I used the "Install photo gallery" link on my host's website. The Host is Startlogic.com

Thanks,
Gary

Hmm, then i suggest you ask your hoster how you can reach your Gallery.

I am sure your hoster will solve this issue in minutes.

Well, Gallery 1.6 is still in development.
The next ALPHA (= pre beta ;-) will be released in ~ 3 weeks.
I hope the final will be release in the middle of July ..

There is no automatic install version of Gallery 1.6-dev, so you would have to install it own your own ...
AND its at the moment FOR TESTING only ;-)

Anyway, thanks again. In the meantime, I talked to Startlogic and they have changed many things on their site and Gallery is no longer available and my many photos in the Gallery are likely irretrievable.

No joke?

They DELETED your Gallery and YOUR photos??

Please ask this, if the photos are still there, we can restore your Gallery.

The person I talked to said he would check to see if the photos can be retrieved. Would we have to create the albums again? Can I still put a link to Gallery on my web page? Where would it exist?

Im with Startlogic as well and I'm just now having problems uploading pics but all of my old ones are still there. I would be surprised if they deleted them. You should be able to see them when you use the Host Manager or through ftp.

They apparently don't keep the gallery on the same server and it is not directly accessible. You might want to back up your photos before they disappear like mine.

Hi Gary,

if i understand you correct, the images are there.
Problem is, that i think this might be to complicated for to explain what to do.

What we could do is, that you give me access to your Webspace and i do the rest.
And when i visit USA (i'm from germany), you owe me a beer and a steak ;-)

Hi...I also use StartLogic for hosting and think I can help. If your site has been migrated to their new platform, the path you need to type to use the URL option to upload pictures has changed. If you login to your vdeck from StartLogic's site and then go to to Server Information in the Web Site box and then you will need to note the path beside Document Root. This is what you will use when you put in the URL in Gallery. Just add whatever ever folder after the public_html and it should work. I have no idea why they made it so complicated but once I started using this, I could upload through the URL again.

Good Luck!
