Hello folks,

I just joined; this is my first post and I have a few questions:

1.On my Web hosting server, I have CPanel which also contains Fantastico Deluxe which offers a quick installation possibility, but the version available is 2.2.2. If i use this method to install how can I upgrade to the latest version which I presume is 2.2.4. I want to do the upgrade immediately to the latest version after I install the version 2.2.2 using the Fantastico script or do I have to wait till Fantastico updates their scripts to upgrade?

2. If I avoid this form of installation, I could also use the pre-installer, but do I have any disadvantages using that method.

3. Is there any way I could embed or integrate G2 on the Invision Power Services Board along with Word Press which I have already installed as a standalone for the moment, before I integrate it to the board? And what about common log-ins etc.

Thanks for any advice.

1. please ask your webhost why they don't have gallery 2.2.4 yet. offering gallery 2.2.2 is a security risk for their customers.
also note that gallery 2.2.3 (the successor of 2.2.2) has been released on August 27th, 2007 - 5 months ago. 2.2.4 has been released 1 month ago.

there's no point in using fantastico to install g2.2.2 right now since you'd want to upgrade to g2.2.4 right away, as you said. and you'd have to manually upload the new gallery files to your server to perform the upgrade.

i suggest you go right for gallery 2.2.4 and install it without fantastico, like most users do anyway.

see:
documentation -> installation -> installation instructions.

2. the main disadvantage of the preinstaller is that the gallery2 folder and all gallery2 application files will be owned the webserver-user instead of by your ftp account.
more on that distrinction: documentation -> installation -> security.

3. there's an integration for IPB and an integration for WP. no idea if people got the three of them to work together, it's sure not as easy as integrating only 2 packages.

Fantastico's newest update, released just last week, still has 2.2.2 as their Gallery option. It seems that there may be a problem between Gallery and Fantastico that Fantastico has decided not to update the version. Since this is the software that is offered by webhosts worldwide, it may be worth someone from Gallery contacting someone at FAntastico to see if this can be resolved.

Just a thought, as many 'non-techy' types just use Fantastico for the one-click ease of installing software.

Hmm. I've emailed our contact at Fantastico to see about this, we'll see if/when they get back to me.

There was a user that just installed with Fantastico and it was G2.0. So it also up to the host to install an up to date version of Fantastico as well. Perhaps some pressure from the users will have more impact at Fantastico and hosts than the single voice we have.
Let you host know that 'Fantastico's newest update, released just last week, still has 2.2.2' and G2.2.2 has some security issues that should be of concern for their users. The more pressure, especially from paying customers, will get more action than we can put on them.

FYI; I would not upgrade with Fantastico. It seems fine for new installs but we have seen many issues with upgrades.

Dave

can you please point me in the direction of the IPB integration package? I can't find it anywhere, all I've seen is numerous requests and posts about a hired programmer with a poorly performing script.
