Deciding whether to install Gallery as plug-In vs. application

Greetings, we are just looking into gallery software for the first time, and we are both surprised and intrigued by the availability of the application as a plug-in for either Joomla or B2Evolution.

Has anyone gone this route, rather than installing Gallery as a standalone app? What are the differences in functionality, if any, the benefits or disadvantages of choosing one path over the other?

Thanks!

gallery integrates with other applications. gallery's functionality doesn't change when integrated. by integrating gallery with another application, you remove some walls between the two applications. e.g. single-sign-on / single-user-registration, etc.

Thanks so very much, Valiant. To implement, do we install Gallery as a freestanding app and then install the plug-ins to whatever we wish (B2E, Joomla, etc)? Or does the plug-in implement the whole application? (Latter seems unlikely .. and sorry if this seems a lame question.)

And for clarity (and assuming the former solution, above), if we install Joomla, then Gallery, then the Gallery plug-in for Joomla, would a user then come to our site, go through whatever login setup we have via Joomlam then automagically be logged into Gallery as well?

To take it a step farther, suppose we have Joomla, B2E, and Gallery. We install the Gallery plug-in to Joomla. Do we also need toe B2E plug-in ... or does B2e have a similar plug-in for Joomla? (If someone happens to know.)

I SO appreciate help with this ... thank you!

please read the joomla/g2 integration documentation. documentation -> integrations -> joomla.

yes, you're logged in to g2 when you log in to joomla.

yes, you'd need a separate b2e integration to joomla / g2.

I often chuckle at such suggestions from experienced users to beginners. Would you be willing to post a link to he specific documentaion you are suggesting that I read? (On the Joomla site there is no "documentation" link at all, at least none that seems obvious to me.)

Also, I take your last response to mean "yes, you would first install Gallery and then also install the Gallery plug-in to Joomla, B2E, or whatever." Do I understand you correctly?

Thanks again!
