Phpbb3 and gallery2 use same database

i want my users to be able to sign up for Forums (phpbb3) , then be able to use the same login info to get into gallery2
i have read most of the post about this and the gallery2 integration package seems to be outdated . other than that i cant figure it out . Any help would be much appreciated
