Hi everyone, Anyway, what would be your recommendations for getting reliable web hosting? Where are you hosting your websites? Are you happy with your providers? I am now checking http://www.hosting24.com/ - offer looks very nice, but is it real that they can provide unlimited disk space? What do you think about it? Maybe things have changed in last 4 years? With my current provider I get only 2GB of disk space for $10 per month.. |

I use 1and1.com -- their home package is about $5 per month, 120 gb of space, and everything you need in basic linux (or Windows) shared hosting.
I tried five different hosts before going to 1and1 (yahoo commercial, earthlink, comcast, globat, godaddy), and I've been very happy with their performance.
If you use my referral link, I'll get a reward! www.1and1.com/?k_id=17278656
But seriously -- look through my posts on this forum. You'll see that I've tried others and have had serious problems. Their customer service was okay, but their servers just didn't have the performance (or configuration?) to support a gallery/drupal site.

While for most of the web hosting population, unlimited disk space would work great -- but customers that are using CMS's, Blogs and are actually getting visitors, the chances of you running into resources limitation on single-server shared hosting providers is great. Simply put, there is no such thing as "unlimited disk space" and given the fact that Gallery users would actually use disk space, you may find yourself getting the excuse of "too much resources being used" to clear up disk space!

I use Host Gator dot com. They have a cpanel that is great.
Unlimited storage
Unlimited domains
Unlimited databases
and the list goes on. I use it for many of my sites and each can have a shopping cart, photo gallery, you name it. They all install themselves through Fantastico.
I pay one hosting fee thats around $100.00 a year for 10 of my business, family and the site for the 3 teams I coach, and yes I get a kick back if you use the affiliate link above. You can be an affiliate as well and pay for your yearly web hosting.

I would stay away from hosting24. when you search for them in google, you get this result - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=714107
I recommend going with a descent host that offers proper contact us information and have a nice rating. I personally use Chime Host for web hosting needs and so far i am satisfied with them. They should have a special going on for $4.95 and keep in mind that you are paying monthly. You are not required to pay for 1 or 2 years like other hosts.

I'd be extremely wary of y2kserver's offer. Sounds kind of odd, not to mention you can set yourself up for extortion. One day business is great, the next your host locks your files and says you can have your site back for $2k or $10k or whatever they think they can get out of you. I've seen it happen with domain names.
Even worse, maybe they'll let you conduct business as usual and simply monetize their "free web hosting" by grabbing credit card details from your e-commerce customers - but in small enough amounts no one ever catches on that it's your host that's doing it.

I currently host a 500 Gb space used.. (on my way up to 1 Tb) gallery2/joomla site with dreamhost.. however they too may think you use too many resources.. they do offer a thing called PS which is a private server.. they give you 150 mb ram and like 150 mhz processor for like $5 a month (special deal for me being a customer.. but you might get them to match it..)

Now you are one paranoid m******** =)
* you don't need to store creditcard information in order to process payments (read: you shouldn't)
* domain registration is transferred, just a website
* block your access to files? don't you make backups?
anyway, if you're a technical person (know your bit of linux/apache/mysql) then you could try the extremely cheap dedicated servers at www.hetzner.de
I refuse to work on shared hosting environments.
