Currently, the Gallery 2 bridge at http://extensions.joomla.com is designed to be Joomla 1.0 Native, meaning it works on the previous edition of Joomla which has been updated to J 1.0.15. A Joomla 1.5 Native or Legacy compatible bridge is probably in the works. If you write one or find one elsewhere, do share! :-)

You can use a bridge for Joomla 1.5.6 to connect integrate Gallery and Joomla. I have an install working (Gallery 2.2.5 and Joomla 1.5.6) and it seems to work without any problem (although it will slow the site down a bit since you are in essence running two things with a bridge).

You can go here for the Joomla 1.5 bridge component and plugins:
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/gallery2_bridge/frs/

or here (tends to get updated here first)
http://trac.4theweb.nl/g2bridge/browser/branches/sil3nt

You can go here for the forum discussing the bridge for Joomla 1.5:
http://forum.4theweb.nl/showthread.php?t=1022
The documentation on the bridge can be hard to find or outdated (applies to older Joomla 1.0 version).

The key thing with the bridge is to make sure your Gallery installation works okay as well as your Joomla install before you start messing around with the bridge. Otherwise, it is hard to narrow down any issues. If they both work okay, then install the bridge component and the two plugins that allow Joomla to integrate with Gallery login authorizations. There is a separate plugin if you want to allow Joomla searching of photo tags. You will need to give the component the path to your Gallery install along with a server path. People sometimes have issues with that part, since one entry requires a regular web link and the server path link. People also sometimes forget to enable the two plugins. Then you create a menu link in Joomla to the Gallery component. That should get you a Gallery window within your Joomla install. The bridge also allows you to have one login to Joomla which also logs you into Gallery. The integration does not really apply towards the "themes", so you have to still pick a theme in Gallery and pick a them in Joomla that compliment each other. Selecting a theme in Joomla does not make it automatically override the Gallery theme.

Anyway, that should get you going.

Thanks, but gosh - look at all the files there! I have absolutely no clue as to which file(s) to download and what to do with them. This is terribly frustrating, but I do thank you very much!

Hiya, I have the same problem, I have installed all the files in Joomla , but the plug-in is missing
If someone can tell me that there is not a plug-in available, I can stop my search as I cannot seem to find it.

New to both and using the latest Joomla and Gallery2

Thanks

Double check that you published the plugins (auth and user). The above files are all you need for operation.

From the above screenshot the files are (in order):
1) Search Plugin: not required, use if you want to be able to use search function in Joomla to include Gallery photos
2) Sidebar Module: not required, simply shows the sidebar options in a module position. Need depends on type of theme you are using in Gallery.
3) Plugin Auth: required, needed for Joomla to Gallery user authentication
4) Plugin User: required, needed for Joomla to Gallery user authentication
5) Image Block Module: not required, useful if you want a random image block displayed in a module position.
6) Component Bridge: required, it is the main component for bridge.
7) Community Builder Plugin: needed if you want bridge to work with community builder

As noted, make sure you publish any plugins and modules you want to use.

You are so right. It is really hard to find a gallery template that can be used for bridging with joomla even the very simple ones give not what i want.

- the native slideshow and the flash slideshow plugins of G2 are bad so i need something like the Hybrid theme but this not very well integrates in the bridge sidebar and i can not set ratings and comments for the elements of the album.

Do you have some advise?

I am not some expert in php but can change some css fontsizes and colors. It is very difficult to search the web because there are a lot of old and very old items whitch are not longer valid for the new versions of Joomla and G2.

The new Gallery version 2.3 uses a PicLens(Cooliris) front end for the slide show feature which makes it more usable. On the themes, it took awhile to find something that blends in. A good site to try out various themes/color packs in Gallery is:

http://themes.gallery2.hu/

Other than that, once you get something that is close, say using a light theme for a light template in Joomla, you can tweak the CSS files for Gallery theme to make it blend better. In my case, I use Bentobox template from Rocket Themes and the PGLightBox template using the PG Snow colorpack in Gallery. With some tweaks (mostly trial and error), I was able to make it look like it was part of Joomla. When you are doing all this, it helps a lot to have the Firefox Web Developer and ColorZilla Add-Ons to help you in the process. The key was just trying to find a template/theme that was close enough so it wasn't a pain to change a lot of CSS files. In the end, I didn't do any editing of php files, just the template and CSS files.
