I've seen a couple of other questions about this but I'm still basically clueless. I've installed Gallery2 to our site, hosted by Hostgator, using Fantastico. Now, how do I upload themes? If you hadn't guessed, I'm totally new at this. Some friends and I are setting up a fan site with a gallery of several thousand screen caps. |

Thank you! That's brilliant.
Now, for my next trick I'd like to add/change the colorpak options. I can see I need to go to gallery2/modules/colorpack/packs - but can't find it.

Do you have the colorpacks module activated?

Yep. If by 'activated' you mean that, in the Display menu for Gallery Plugins, there's a green tick beside Colorpaks and the only Actions available are 'deactivate/delete and uninstall', then, yes, it's activated. Um. I've uploaded a theme I found at http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:User_Contributions to the gallery directory at the host site by using the upload file function in the public_html directory. I had to convert it to a zip file then extract the contents. I can see it in the modules/themes directory but it's not in the gallery. I've gone through the 'download plugins' process twice. I'm sure I'm missing something simple. Either I'm uploading wrong or to the wrong place.
Should I be uploading using ftp? I'm having a bit of trouble with the program at the moment.

So you have a colorpack and you want to upload it and don't know where?
or
You can't change the colorpack of a theme?
or
you don't know where to change the colorpack of the theme?

Well, pretty much all of the above. I can see how to change a colorpak - I go into it's settings and change the #______ to what I want - trial and error to check the look. So, should I be editing the standard colorpaks that come with the program? Or, looking for others? The same for themes. If I'm looking for others - where and how do I upload them to the program? Through Item Administration or someplace similar by logging into the gallery admin, or in the modules in the host's _html directory?

Please ask one question at a time.
It is up to you how you edit colorpacks. There is directions for creating your own on the codex.

Apologies. OK. If I want to upload anything to the gallery, what's the process? Assuming I've found what I want.

Unzip the files on you client ( if they are ziped ) then FTP them to the server.
modules go in the modules directory
themes go in the themes directory
colorpacks go in the modules/colorpacks/packs directory
See existing files to see how they are all laid out.

OK. Uploaded but I'm still not getting them in the list of themes anywhere in the gallery admin. I've had a look here in the Themes how to links and I've looked at the vid. Now, when I go through the Get more plugins process, I'm getting error messages which I hadn't before.
Error downloading index from 'http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index'.
Error downloading index from 'http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/experimental/index'.
Please make sure that your internet connection is set up properly or try again later.

I'm guessing dealing with a complete newbie is a bit hard.
It's OK. The host has fixed the problem.
