Hello,
I just started running a classic truck club website that pertains to original 1940s to 1970s 4x4 trucks. I'm trying to find a photo gallery program and I hoping that Gallery will allow us to have four fixed categories at our website or forum so our users can create their own personal albums in.
The categories are:
1947 to 1955 4x4 Trucks
1955 to 1959 4x4 Trucks
1960 to 1966 4x4 Trucks
1967 to 1973 4x4 Trucks
Then a users can choose which category to create a photo album of their truck in and the user has complete control over his own pictures in his album.
Say for example I'm a user that owns a 1952 Chevy 4x4 and I decide to create a photo album to show off my truck. Will I be able click on one of four the categories (in my case the 47 to 55 category listed above) and create a photo album of my truck in that category and nobody else can upload other photos into my album only their own album?
Does that make any sense about having fixed categories for our members to choose from to create their album in? Also I'd like to add it in our new phpBB3 forum if possible, if not then at our website.

Thank you in advance,
Pee-Wee.

Hi Pee-Wee
The short answer is: Yes!
The long answer: Gallery2 has almost endless possibilities to realize what you want. Which of them best fits your imagination is limited only by your knowledge of Gallery2. After using Gallery2 for more than 15 months I'm still discovering new ways to organize my photos.
If you wish to have fixed categories for your members I would say: Go ahead! The only problem is to have a well defined concept. Integration into phpbb3 should not be a problem olghout I didn't test it, but it works in my handwritten websites as well as in wordpress.

Hello,
Thank you for the fast reply. How tricky would this be to set up? I can only upload document using my ftp program but as far as changing any codes, I'm lost. Does this require changing the code or is it a matter of clicking on the settings to create four categories to allow my truck club members to create personal albums in the category they choose?
Thank you for your time,
Pee-Wee.

Hi Pee-Wee
it'a a matter of clicking, no coding required. You create 4 albums for your categories. Next you create an album for your users, let's call it 'communitiy'. This album is only visible to registered and logged-in users. In this album every registered user has his own album where he can upload his photos.
The next step is to create a replica of the photos in one of the 4 category-albums. A replica is just a copy of the metadata of a photo but it uses the same image-file. Who may create the replicas is a matter of security settings (each user or only the admin).
Another approach would be to use tags (keywords) for your 4 categories. The users will tag each photo to one of the 4 categories. Each category album displays only photos whose tags contain their category name. The URL of such an album is http://www.example.com/gallery2/key/name_of_category.

Hello Oceco,
Thank so much for your help and quick reply. For some reason the link didn't work for me. But I am starting to feel more hopeful that our truck club can have a cool photo gallery. Another question is we just got our phpbb3 forum software upgraded and running by a guy that is no longer available. Would we be able to use our forum's member's database for GALLERY2 so our members don't have to log in with 2 different usernames and passwords? We're not a large truck club with lots of cash but we would be willing to scrape together enough to PayPal you or someone to set this up for us. What do you think, any suggestions?
Thanks again for your help,
Pee-Wee.

Hi Pee-Wee
The link in my previous posting is just an example and doesn't work!
There is an integration module for Gallery2 and phpBB3 (Gallery Integrations). Usually those integration modules allow to have a common user base. Currently the www.bhbpp.com site is down and therefore I can't tell you any detail ...
I sent you a PM.

Hello Oceco,
Thanks again for your fast reply. Just 2 weeks ago I paid someone to install the Gallery at our forum and I think that it is Gallery... but it doesn't give me an option to create categories for our members to create their own albums into, it only allows them to upload single pictures into a category not an entire album. Can you check out this link http://napco4x4.org/forum/gallery/menu.php and see if you can tell if it is Gallery or not? Maybe we paid to have the wrong one loaded lol!
Thanks again for everything,
Pee-Wee.

Hi Pee-Wee
I took a quick look and it seems that Gallery2 is embedded into phpBB (probability: 95%). To my knowledge I think everything is OK with the investment you made. Only the special feature you want seems to be missing. To implement my proposal is not obvious and a little bit tricky. Nevertheless it's a standard feature of Gallery2.

I took a quick look and I'm 200% sure it's not Gallery2. Sorry.
For instance, here's a url from your gallery:
http://napco4x4.org/forum/gallery/pic.php?mode=large&pic_id=223
It if were G2, then there would be no pic.php (it would be main.php), no "mode" (G2 doesn't have such a thing) and no "pic_id" - it would be g2_itemId (and all the other variables would be prefixed by g2_ as well).

I apologize: My look was to quick! alecmyres is right (probability: 200% ;-)! It is "TS Gallery v0.2.1".

Ahhh ok ok.. I thought the TS part was the guy initials that loaded the program for us LOL! So.. who can I hire to unload the TS Gallery and load up Gallery2?? Or should I just wait for Gallery3 that seems like it's going to be easy to load with more features? What do you say??
Thanks a lot guys,
Pee-Wee.
