We would like to move the gallery from being installed in the root directory to the directory holding our forum software. I would like to be able to just move it from one directory to another and change info in files that require link changes.
Is this possible? When we created the new forum software and archived the former forum I tried changing the database username and password (like I did for the other things) but this gallery just disappeared. I changed the info in the c-panel and also tried changing the info in the config file, but as I said it would not do it---unless there is mmore than one spot to do so.
The reason for this the former person that installed it has since left the forum but is taking our tutorial and images so we need to make sure she is blocked from everywhere....we have already changed every password we can find...lol
Please let me know if I can just move it over---make a new database for it then transfer the info from the former one to the new one---or do I need to create a different database.
If I have posted this in the wrong spot my apologies and please move to the right place. I did a search but did not find anything near this situation.
Also the information of purchase that we have, does it entitled her to use our gallery software without permission?

FAQ: How can I move my gallery installation from one folder to another?
Can you elaborate on the "gallery software without permission", please I don't understand.

I mean that my site owner paid for the gallery license and this person we think has installed it at her site also, without my owners permission. Is that allowed?

The Gallery project develops open source software licensed under the GPL, and is maintained and developed by a community of users and developers.
Your site owner does not have to pay for a Gallery license. Anybody can install Gallery and use it, even for profit, as long as it/they conform(s) to the GPL license.
As for copying images that is not in our control and you have to address that with the site owners.

You know, I thought that was the case and this unscrupulous woman took money from my owner telling her it was to pay for tha gallery.
OK, that is alright then, she can use the gallery too but now
can I move our existing gallery to a different place by just moving the entire gallery directory and either change the config gile to reflect a new database username/password with the existing database or....
make a new database, insert the info that the old one has into the new one and still move the directory to the new spot?
Or do I need to totally reinstall the software from scratch?
thank you for your patience.

By 'place' you mean a different folder on the same server? FAQ: How can I move my gallery installation from one folder to another?

You have to assume I know nothing of your situation, so what are you trying to prevent?
Dave
P.S. the gallery I found at the first url in your signature is not this gallery software it is: Powered by Coppermine Photo Gallery
So are you using Gallery?

Sorry for the confusion...I manage several sites...#3 is the one that uses the gallery.
Yes right now the gallery lives in: public_html/root I want to move the entire directory (folder) to the forum directory and wanted to drag/drop it there.
so the home would be public_html/forum/gallery
would I need to make a new database and then transfer the tables from the existing one to the new one or would I be able to keep the existing database.
aside from editing the config file with the new database user/password from mysql (myphpadmin)and possibly the new url is there any other file to edit.

you keep the existing DB.
So you want to use a different username and password? If you are moving the files form one folder to another then no. Have you read the directions?

Since I was not the one to install it initially -- no I have not read anything, but I did copy the instructions from that link about moving, thank you for it.
I just like to get everything ready before I do any type of move so that I do not forget a step.
Without having to recreate a totally new DB then I am happy and will not need to change the username and pass for the myphp DB.
I think I have all my "steps" listed now. YOu are going to make one very happy old woman if she does this right...lol
thank you
