Hi, I have been using gallery for a long time and had to move a site. Through the process up moving and upgrading the db and install became completely hosed. I still have all of my album directories on the server. Is there a way to import these into a new install without having to create all new album names and folders and then processing the photos into those photos? Any help is very much appreciated! You can add the files from add items from local server. It will keep the directory structure and name the albums per directory names - items will also be added with the name of the filename in the proper album.
You want the old albums directory to be outside g2data when you start. Add the local server path to the old albums directory, goto add items -> from local server -> choose your old albums directory -> find files -> import.

Thanks! That is working but the thumbnails will not build. I can click all the way through broken images until I get to the main image and it shows up. Otherwise, I get the broken image icon.

Make sure you have an image toolkit installed ie imagemagick or netpbm. GD is included with most php installations, but its performance is horrible.

Ok. Image Magick and GD installed. I put IM in 1st position and it says thumbnails are complete and when I go to check I still see broken images. I cleared the cache as well.

Make sure g2data is writable
chmod -R 0777 g2dat
and also try clearing the database cache and clear any cached pages in acceleration.

I chmodded the folder to 777 most of the folders are 755. I cleared caches and still broken images. When I try to build thumbnails I get some errors that say they already exist. I have no idea what the problem is. I dont have netpbm on the server but do have gd and IM. I've tried both and nothing.
Thanks for your help.

I followed all of the steps above and then found some info in the faq which worked. I turned off square thumbnails and EXIF plugins and everything works now.

hello,
i have near the same problem. i use the latest gallery version2.3, i have installed the gallery completely fresh. now i would like to install my pictures with add item, i click on my directory and then i see my 5 other directorys, i choose check all, check copy base filenames to, unmark thumbs, because i dont need it and then add files.the gallery goes directly to the add item start page, no picture will be added.
it only works when i go directly to the latest directory, but i have 10.000 pics and a lot of directorys so it was a lot of work to do this manual.
what is wrong. directory is 777 or 755.
