Hello,

I'm sorry to be back again so soon with a new problem after I got fast and good help only some days ago.
Now, when I'm trying to upload pictures to my gallery I get the above mentioned error. I tried remote gallery and the upload applet in the gallery. I updated the installation then successful - the error prevails. I tried to check the paths in the config.php - seems to be allright. I put the gallery in debug mode.

The Gallery is (obviously)found in: www.pics2c.de/hiberniabilder
O - before I forget: AVIRA Antivir detects an "infected homepage" when I open the upload applet. I told it to ignore it.

Would be so glad, if anybody could help.
Tillman

You'll need to check the error logs on your server to get more information about the error. The 500 internal server error messages are logged to the server.
FAQ: What is the webserver error log?

It could be your antivirus program interfering, seems odd to me to be reporting a false positive for this.

Does other upload methods work?

Thanks for helping. The error log is empty, so I tried to upload from a different machine (no antivirus there) and it worked fine. What a nuisance - it seems the antivirus program is the culprit. So I must find a workaround there until the program is updated. (I had the very same running in the past with no problem at all.) For my situation Gallery Remote and the applet are the most convenient, so I'd like to carry on using them.
Greetings, Rembert

Or use some other program. I like and have used Avast and AVG.

Could also be that the digital signature for the Java JAR has expired and the anti virus is catching that as well.
It might take some time to get the Java Jar signature updated.

I changed to another AV (Norton/Symantec -no comments please ;-), still the same error, but no more virus warning. Update: I tried again from my 2nd computer - it did not work from there any more. I installed Gallery Remote on that one, too - but I doubt this to be the cause. Any suggestions? Java should be up to date, as it is newly installed on the 2nd machine. I run Win 7RC on both machines.

Why? Are you able to try from an operating system that's actually available and supported instead of one that's still in testing? Vista, XP, Linux, Mac, etc

Well, I expected that. I'm running Win7 for good reason and Gallery Remote worked flawless for months with it. As I'm not able to quickly set up a Vista/XP system, I will have to stick to W7 for the time being.

Then I don't know what to say. I don't have or have access to Win7, nor plan on having any access to it for probably a couple of years. There's always VMware to install a supported version of Windows or Linux :)

Back again: I found out something weired: it is only images I received a few days ago to put them in the gallery. All other images can be uploaded normally. I tried to find out what the difference was, but could not find anything. As they came via CD-ROM they were write protected, but I removed that. Otherwise they are jpg, about 500kb size 24bit colour depth, no uncommon letters in the naming....... What can that be?
I attach one of the culprits.

Could be the EXIF info possibly, that's one thing that comes to mind. Try uninstalling the EXIF plugin if you have it installed: Site Admin > Plugins

If not, then I'd try taking that image, opening it in a program like irfanview, and just saving it, stripping out EXIF info and maybe slightly reducing the image quality to make sure you make a change to the file. Then try uploading.

Hello, must be something in the EXIF. Everything else I had tried before - now, after stripping the EXIF information, it worked. Strange, that. But thank you again for helping!
Greetings, Rembert

Just seen it before. I'd take a look at your version of ImageMagick or if you're using NetPBM take a look at the version of jhead you're using.

I was able to add the image:
http://www.langleycom.com/gallery2/v/test/Klassenfahrt_204b-00.jpg.html
so might be a version issue as nivekiam says.
