Gallery as an alternative to PhotoPost Pro?

Is the gallery software that this forum supports a suitable or potential alternative to PhotoPost Pro, which is an inexpensive commercial php/sql photo gallery solution? I need a gallery solution to run on a Linux server that I can set up to offer user accounts to users, so that they can show their own collections of photos. I'd like them to be able to show image exif metadata in the gallery.

Thanks!

Try it. I've never seen or heard of PhotoPost Pro, nor am I going to spend any time checking it out. Try Gallery and see if it has everything you need. From your brief description, I'd say yes.

You can have user accounts, either manually created or install the Registration plugin and allow people to register themselves

Each user can have their own album with the User Albums plugin

Install the EXIF plugin to display EXIF data.

OK, it looks promising.

I have three sites using PhotoPost Pro, but I feel the development of the software has stagnated. The latest version, which I had to pay for, seemed little more than the result of messing around with the user interface, which annoyed my users. Its key feature for me is user database account integration with the vBulletin forum, which is an excellent forum platform. I see that there is some support for Menalto Gallery integration with vBulletin. But would I be better off waiting for version 3?

I wish I could answer that. I don't know what the integration is going to be like or what work is being done on that, if any for the first release. That might be something that's not really worked on until later. I don't know. Things are rolling along pretty quickly though.
