Unable to upgrade v2 to 2.3 stuck in step 4 (kernel)

i also have a problem with comments. the table for the comments now has a size of 1 GB. most of the comments seem to be nonsense.
any chance to get grid of all comments?

hi,

originally the v2.1 (i dont know exactly but it was greater than v2.0) produced the same error.

1) any solution for the problem?
2) if not, how can i save my gallery - e.g. by setting up a new installtion. i really don't want to loose the pictures and the folders etc.
3) i don't show any comments but as i saw in db, there are still (i guess robots) fill the comments table, it already reached 1 GB. how can i prevent anyone from posting comments? remember, i don't have a management interface, i just can do some settings within the database.
4) how can i get rid of all those comments. just empty the table? guess not. there are cross references to other tables i see.
