Yes, it's possible and not hard at all. So long as your G2 isn't embedded or multisite right now.

Install G3, go to Admin > Modules > and activate the Gallery2 Import module. From there it'll prompt you to configure it at the top of the screen or you can go to Settings > Gallery 2 Import. Then read that page and follow the instructions. G2 must running on the same server as G3.

We'll be working on documentation so we should have good docs for this sort of stuff by the time G3 is released.

If I Import 2 to 3, is 2 left intact or does it remove the old Gallery?

Yep. Look at it like you have 2 separate installs of 2 different programs and you're just importing data from one to the other.

As for URLs we don't have something in place yet that will map G2 URLs to G3 URLs. You can get close, but it's still going to break URLs and by close that will only work if you have URL Rewrite enabled in G2.

But if you want the G3 install in the same place at the G2 install, simply rename the G2 directory to something else and rename the G3 directory to what the G2 directory was. This will break your G2 install, but G3 works just fine by moving/renaming the directory it's in.

Ok, if i mv /path/www/g2 /path/www/g2.old; and mv /path/new/g3 /path/www/g3.
after this, can i still use the "Setting > Gallery 2 Import" correct?
i mean the g2 path is changed. is still can import correct? or this does not matter the path?

If you move G2, I'm pretty sure you need a working install so you'd probably need to follow these instructions to be able to import G2 into G3:
FAQ: How can I move my gallery installation from one folder to another?

Or these:
FAQ: How can I move my storage folder to another path?

It doesn't change your images from jpg to png, if you had original pngs on the server that's what they are now.

Can you post a link to your G2 and G3 installs?

G2: http://www.wonghome.net/gallery2/
G3: http://www.wonghome.net/gallery/

I have six photo in this album.
http://www.wonghome.net/gallery/index.php/Birthday-2005
and this one is jpeg format, which i new upload to G3, and can view full size, the other five photo can not view full size.
http://www.wonghome.net/gallery/index.php/Birthday-2005/DSC04487.JPG

I see the some photo in G3 is GIF format, but some is jpeg format. (sorry, not png format, it shall be gif format)
but those photo in G2 is jpeg format.
why will that? any idea?

If you want login admin to check something on my G3, give me email, and i send the loginname and password to you.

I know why now.

In my g2, those photo was use "add server path" with symlink add to g2.
but those photo symlink is broke.
so the G3 import modules can not import the original photo (jpeg format).

So, i think this is NOT THE BUG by G3 import modules.

Thank all.

One more question, when i importing photo form G2,
G3 told me:
Because the old G2 is use "150" size thumb, but the G3 default is "200" size,
if you change the size to 200 is slowness import, do you want change the G3 default size to "150"?

then i choose yes(change G3 default thumb size to "150").

But, now i want use "200" thumb size, can i do that? how? is this difficult to do that?

Please help again, thank you.

Ah, you discovered what I was about to post about. I looked at a couple broken images in G3 that were also broken in G2.

Yes, i use Admin > Appearance > Theme Options, change the size from 150 to 200

Because i change the language to Chinese, so the English "term/word" maybe not exact what G3 to use, anyway.

I login to admin first, then use Manage > Maintenance, then i see the rebuild item have 869 photo is expired.
then i click the button(action or ?) to rebuild it, after the rebuild progress is completed, then i read the log, the log told me:
a lot of image can not rebuild.

I can not see the different between some photo can and some photo can not to rebuild.
do you have any idea, what reason make G3 can not rebuild the those image?

my system is openbsd-i386/apache-1.3x/php5-x/php-modules GD(2.0.34 compatible)
http://www.wonghome.net/phpinfo.php

Please help, thank you.

Can i use "add server path" method to add photo with symlink? (not copy the photo)
G2 have this feature too.

I want try to delete then re-add the photo which can not rebuild.
but do not want G3 copy a lot of photo ( for time / harddrive space reason).

I want use the "add server path" method to add some movie to G3,
but i can not see the avi format movie, only see the jpeg photo.
does G3 support avi format movie? G2 support it too.
do i need to add some module(s) to support those feature?

Please help, thank you.

I think i find the reason why G3 can not rebuild some photo.
for some reason after i imported photo from G2, i remove the "/G3/var/album" folder; then i use synlink to rebuild the "/G3/var/album" folder.
i think some photo album structure is broke for above step.

Where can i find the G3 album structure? database? ( i use mysql-5x)
or "/G3/var/somefile"?

Please help, thank you.

Yeah, i solve the problem ( structure and rebuild ).
i review the old G2 directory/file structure, and copy it to G3, then G3 can view the full size now (can not view full size before).
and i rebuilding those image now.

Thank all.

I successful to rebuild all image now.
Thank all.

But i still can not import/upload/server-add avi format movie to G3.
and i also noticed, i can not success rotate the photo image.
when i click the rotate button, nothing to happen? (is it because i use symlink in /G3/var/album/somephoto.jpg?)
when i rotate the photo, will G3 keep the origin photo?
then make the new one (which rotated) to new path?
or G3 need to directly edit/access the origin photo in /G3/var/album/origin.jpg?

Please help, thank you again.

Not supported yet. perhaps in the future.

Quote:

avi movies not supported.

Quote:

Don't do that.

Could be, symlinks are not supported.
