So we have a Gallery2 installation that's been in use but not extensively. I want to install a separate Gallery3 and start using it for new albums. Would it be possible to, once it goes public/live/final, later import Gallery2? Or would it be extremely difficult and they would have to stay separate? Basically, can I merge the two installs I guess...!? Thanks! |

So you're asking if you could import G2 into G3? Sure, easy, install the Gallery 2 Import module for G3. Most of that should be pretty self explanatory (don't have a documentation page about it yet) If you have questions, just ask.

Hmm, I don't see a Gallery2 Import Module here?

It comes with G3 by default, go to Admin > Modules
Still working on the documentation for all the known modules
And that one is on my slate to get done in the next couple of days along with a few others.

Oh, okay great.
Final question!
The blog post/news on Aug 28th mentions to hopefully release the final version on Sunday. We've had a number of Sunday's since and it appears that beta2 is still the latest? Is there a date for the final version to be released?

Final version? No, it doesn't and I don't even have to look at the post to verify that.
And we've only had 1 Sunday since then
That announcement was for B3 yes and we didn't make it during the sprint, it's very close though. Ah, just looked at the post, it states "final beta of Gallery 3". Yeah, that was the plan. We came up with more stuff that needed to be worked on than we could fit into the code sprint. But a ton of things have been worked on in the last week along with lots of bugs fixed.
If you want to help out, grab the latest experimental code and make sure everything's working for you and that there isn't anything major broken.

As for date for the final version of 3.0. No, nothing set in stone. But after B3, the next release will be an RC (Release Candidate) and if everything looks good there, final. But hopefully with the status of RC more people will install and use it and test it. At this point G3 3.0 is considered feature complete and we'd just working on bugs, documentation, polish and finishing a few features (like Organize)
