G3 Wordpress integration?

Hi,

I haven't checked G3 much, except installed it locally and loaded lots of images - so far it seems to work well, but the UI needs some time to get accustomed to.

I noticed recently that WPG2 has posted that they will no longer develop the module. Since Wordpress integration is important to me, my question:

- Will G3 offer any kind of default integration into Wordpress (and other blogs) which is not dependent on contributed modules?

Thanks for an answer, and thank you again for a very nice and useful tool.

I am not sure if default support is required. Would be there support for WPG3?
Yes and No, read here http://gallery.menalto.com/node/89025 - People are willing to pick up the project.

On another hand, it is hard to compete with over dozen of image plug-ins for WP http://codex.wordpress.org/Photoblogs_and_Galleries
Another thing is that based on http://wordpress.org/development/2009/07/2-9-vote-results/ future development may not be feasible.

There is media albums, there is basic image editing, custom image sizes, media ui, and more - highest voted features to be considered for future development of WP. And while it is still "for future", if implemented it may become huge competition to G3.
Notice that some of the features requested are the same discussed here.
Choice is to support one system or two.

I don't know about WP specifically, but in the first release of G3, there will be no support for integrations. That will come in the future, possibly 3.1.

To prospective developers of WPG3, imho, there's no competition with other WP image plugins because Gallery3 is in a class way above the plugins there. I set up WP's and WPMU's. While a more improved media gallery is on track for 2.9 versions, it won't come close to the functionality that the basic Gallery3 has :-) In addition, codebases for WP and WPMU will be merging - but there's no definitive timeline yet.

So I say, go for it now, especially with WPMU, with or without the BuddyPress social networking plugin, you'll get a larger user base and possibly more devs coming in. Integration doesn't have to be as deep as WPG2 but solid enough for WP/WPMU users to post image already uploaded to G3 to blogs and with one login/authentication. Wishlist: 1) WPMU integration, 2) G3 should be in separate database and 3) if WPMU or G3 should go down, it won't affect the other application. Nothing heavy :-)

Finally but not the least, thank you for Gallery3. Testing it right now and so far everything's working well.
