Problems Installing Gallery 2.3

Hi, I tried searching for a response in the forums but couldn't find anything helpful to my case.

I have hostmonster and tried using Fantastico to upgrade my previous version to 2.3. Fantastico copied all the necessary files to the /gallery folder successfully. Now when I go to www.example.com/gallery, it redirects me to the setup page. I log in, and the system check runs with the folowing error:

Storage Directory Permissions Failed
Error: Some files and or directories in your storage directory are not writeable by the webserver user. Run chown -R webserverUser /home/carlitos/public_html/gallery/g2data/ OR run chmod -R 777 /home/carlitos/public_html/gallery/g2data/.

I tried running a chmod, but hostmonster doesn't allow -777 on their webservers. Here I'm stuck. I don't know how to remove the setup page to get my original gallery back.

I renamed my /gallery folder to /gallery_old and installed G2.3 on a new /gallery folder. I have a copy of all my albums and ran a backup of my sql database (now I have localhost.sql on my PC).

My question is, now that I have gallery 2.3 installed, how can I import my albums without losing all the count information and comments?

I tried using the following instructions to import the DB:

Unfortunately, I can't get MySQL to work on my computer. Can someone tell me which version to download? Is there another way of importing the DB?

I also tried upgrading by following these steps:

The setup page still appears on my gallery.

I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks!

try 755
In the end the webserver (gallery application) needs write access to all the files in the g2data direcotry.

Thanks for your reply Dave. The entire g2data folder is set to 755 and it's still giving me permission errors.

Ask your host what the permissions need to be to let an application like Gallery to be able to write to the directories.

755, means that either Apache or PHP would have to run as your user account to write to that directory.
