Slimbox 2 - http://www.digitalia.be/software/slimbox2 is fast and ready as soon the page displays, so it must do something different.
However it is not as fancy as fancybox, and I can't get it to work in gallery3.
I just reinstalled gallery3 from scratch and installed the latest 3nids theme. There are almost 10.000 pictures in a few dozen albums but the 3nids theme refused to display them. Just one empty box on the main gallery page. The default theme works fine. See attachment.

I added a major update to the theme: the videos are now displayed within lightbox, and both images and videos are editable wihtin lightbox (context menu).
Here is a screenshot, if I am not clear enough.
For next update I will try to enhance the navigation: especially the few scenari when you click on an image and it is displayed on a new page...

@sddroog: did you install beta3 or the last version on github (see http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery:Using_Git ). If you have the last version, delete last version of the theme and try to download last version of the theme and install it as explained in README. Don't forget to activate theme_3nids module in admin!
"Clicking too fast" often happens to me when I'm sure the page is loaded and after waiting some more. Haven't got a fix. Not complaining, just reporting. Have changed previous / next image css size back to old values, too hard to find for people who don't know it's even there.
Also: when album info (item description) is rather large (e.g. more than one line) it will be copied (rather badly) to the lightbox. Have disabled it for the time being, but what I'd really like to be there (item description can be viewed on the album page and the sidebar) are the tags currently applied to that particular image. I'm terrible with javascript, however. Did you try this? Guess It would only work with the "displaytags" module enabled.
Edit: Just thought of this: it might be G3 will copy album-desciptoion to image-description by default unless image-description is set. In that case it's probably okay. Although I guess multiple lines are rendered bad anyway.
Some people might like image-description being rendered in the lightbox, although I don't name my images and would like tags better.
I would like to see the image description instead of the album description. But I agree with Okat, use the album description unless the image description is available. That seems like a perfect solution!
When browsing the gallery, I would like to see album/item descriptions as well. Albums show the title and items nothing. Making it configurable would be best!

Sorry to bother you again, but I seem to be unable to activate the module. After selecting the 3nids_module and hit 'update' it says "Activated: 3nids theme" but it is not. No hint can be found in the logfile.

Yes, the 3nids_theme remains unchecked. And the gallery remains empty (just like the "empty box" problem I had before).
After removing theme_3nids_installer.php I was able to active the module. I can even put the file back and it keeps working. And I am able to activate and de-activate without problems now.
What did you change on github? Is there something you want me to test for you?
I completely removed the installer.php file, this is the update on github. I don't really know of it works, but it is not needed...
We'll keep the module without it then!
I'm experiencing some scrollbars on the lightbox. Might be because I changed some CSS properties in screen.css. I guess you guys don't have this problem? Happens with 'resized' and 'full setting'.
Same here. I always use FF3 so I didn't notice the scrollbars before. But with IE8 (with and without compatibility mode) the scrollbars appear on all pictures.
Also, I just installed the 'register' module, but I can't find the 'register' button anywhere. With the default theme it works fine.
I''m using FireFox 3.5.4, but didn't use the supplied screen.css file or themeroller. Could this be the problem? Will backup mine and use yours to test. Will report back.
If you mean all the modules in the gallery3-contrib zip file, no. And if you don't want to use the tagsmap module you can leave that one out as well.
If you just need the lightbox and the theme you should use the comment_3nids if you have comments enabled on your site.
I believe i have the latest gallery, not beta 3 but the one in action.

I use the Google TagMap included in your download. When I go to the map and Klik a pin, I get a line og fotos tag'ed to the pin. If i Click that foto it shows en medium size and not in Lightbox. Could the photo show in Lightbox maybe. Not sure if changes are needed on the Gmap side...

@hebhansen: No you don't need all modules, only the theme_3nids one.
There is nothing planned to manage layout via admin.
But there is an admin already, go to content->Theme 3nids, and you will see!
I added an option, so you can choose either item or parent for the item titles.
About the picture size, go in admin, and you can set to resize or full images (size of resized images can also be changed in gallery admin).
About google maps, it was intended to work with album....I'll try to fix it (quite busy right now).
@okat: thanks a lot, this is fixed! update to last git today...hard to follow!!! About tags, yes the title will still be displayed, but now you can choose item or album for the title. But tags are written next to the title.

Btw. can I suggest that you place this entire theme in the correct folder structure. That way this would be only one dump as opposed to 3 dumps. And maybe leave out the additional modules. This is an 8mb download/upload and most of the modules will change at there respective threads. Just wondered why they are included in a theme unless they were altered for this theme.
Small request, the search bar is very long, almost half my site. Can it be shortened - Even better, can it be placed to the right, I like to keep top left for logo...

The register module is to make it possible for the user to register for a new account. As I run a closed gallery you only see the login page, with the 'register' button for new users. See attached pictures for the difference between the default and the 3nids theme.

Noticed the x being too large. My browser was 'zoomed in'. Don't know how that happened but It wasn't your theme. Glad to know.

I did the following
1 grabbed the latest 3nids (Note: there is no lib-folder as previous!??) and uploaded themes and modules folder
My site went blank
2 I uploaded the old 3nids and the site works again but with above limitations
3 I added the line proposed by Okat - and the site went blan as under 1)
This means I am still at the previous 3nids and nothing sorted for me yet.
I have not changed anything for the .map classes mentioned in ReadMe

I can not comment images either, might be due to above problem.
Page seems to load admin menu, Globe, Search field.
When adding the first item (album) loading seems to stop. This is in Chrome just checked Internet Explorer. Same problem
