Adding Text/Link in header or footer

I would have thought this was fairly straight-forward, but after searching the forums and codex for several hours, I cannot figure out how to add a single line of text to the footer, and a link back to my main site in the header (or the footer).

I am using the siriux theme, and have tried editing the div footer section of the template.tpl as follows:

It did not work, and I am stumped. I am certainly not opposed to reading the manual (codex), if you can point me in a general direction.

Thanks, Dave! I had cleared the cache, but had the acceleration on. Turning all of that off got my footer working.
