I had a number of photos in the gallery that were old and had been set manually with some incorrect dates etc.

So I updated them in place with Exiftools to give them a more correct creation date etc.

Is there a way to have the exif data re-scanned for a particular album. or is that not a feature that was felt necessary?

Try un-installing an reinstalling the EXIF module and then you will should be prompted to have it rescan all the items again.
Deleting and reading the item should work as well.

We never expect the user to modify the item in the /var/albums direcotry manually.

I tried the deact then react of the exif module, but that did not help when running Maintenance.

From a server perspective, it is unlikely that those pictures exist in parallel on the same server.
To do this from a maintenance perspective, you would need a way to EXPORT one or more photos, make any alterations, then re-impot them with the option to replace on duplicates.

Since this is not available, then next simpler is modify them in place and then have it rescan the selected entries.

And the next best (and what I did) was to manually copy the pictures from the var folder, delete them from the gallery, alter the photos as needed, then re-add.

If I felt comfortable with writing modules for the Gallery, I would think the second option above may be the simplest to implement, along with the exiftools toolset.

Dang it! That's a question I meant to ask in SF...

Just unchecking a module only deactivates it. I see no way to actually uninstall a module in G3 like you can in G2.
