Gallery3 new policy of disallowing spaces and special characters in internet directory

I added most of my photos before the "no special characters or spaces in internet names" policy existed and it's making my gallery appear to be broken in random places. Is there a way to actually fix this without removing and readding everything (and losing all my comments so far)?

I had exactly the same problem problem after importing my Gallery2.

I've not tried it but the Gallery2 Import needs to change anything that falls into the "no special characters or spaces in internet names" and do an automatic conversion.

Please try with an experimental version
FAQ: How do I upgrade?
It should convert special characters on the import now.

floridave,

Is there a way to do this without having to totally loose everything I have in Gallery3? I've spend a ton of time adding tags, moving around and stream lining etc

A majority of my pictures (4500) and a large number of urls have spaces in them.

It's a great shame this happened (and I think it's a bad idea to be honest).

Well it is beta software and is not expected to be used in a production environment.
Did you test with an experimental version like I asked? What are the results?

BTW- somehow it appears this conversation has forked, nonetheless, I'm using git and have been since post-beta2.

Have you tried to import G2 items with the most recent experimental version?

I never said anything about g2. I'm talking about import using either Server Add or regular add, using normal methods. I did not upgrade from G2 in any way.

What are results of the server add method with the latest Experimental version?

Server add with the HEAD works great. That's my point. I can readd it all, but I lose all the metadata that I've added over time (the album descriptions and such) which I'd definitely prefer not to.

So it works with the most recent version but not with Beta3. Sorry that this beta software does not fulfill your expectations. There is always going to be issues that popup in fixing bugs, this is one side effect of using beta software.
Perhaps a developer will redirect his limited resources to fix this issue for beta 3 users.

See if the latest version from git of the rescue module:
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Modules:rescue
helps
