CSS and compression: $theme->css does not understand @import

Defining the schema it is nice to be able break CSS in logical blocks and use @import for merging.
While I see point in "don't use it" approach, even there there are proper usage patterns.

"To use or not to use" should be up to developer and not the core. Core could be agnostic to the structure, especially when core builds aggregated CSS anyway.

Could we extend CSS compiler to suppert @import rule?

It was possibly something that was overlooked, or could just not be supported purely because it could be a huge layer of extra complexity.

Either way, please file a ticket so it's not forgotten about or lost and it can be decided upon by the devs at some point:
