New Sidebar Drag and Drop Behaviour

Hi Team,

after installing latest GIT PULL, I am not sure the drag and drop feature of sidebar plug-in is working properly. I can't seem to get anything to stay drag and dropped. The item moves over to the other side but then just snaps back to its original location.

Also the new code seems to have broken the "latestupdates" module. It just does not appear anymore. I guess the interface has changed for the sidebar modules to register themselves with Gallery 3.

If you drag a module over to the other side, don't let it go untill you see a yellow bar underneath it. To get this, try to position it centered and as close to whatever is above it as possible.

Looks like the "snap" area needs to be made bigger. You have to almost drag the first one onto the "header" of either side before you see the yellow. Then as long as you get the subsequent ones hovering over an existing block you get the yellow bar.

Oh i see. Yes, the yellow bar does the trick but it's a bit hit and miss.

"Snap" area enlargement may make for improved usability.

I read a post by talmdal in IRC last night about this. It sounds like it's most likely a limitation with the jquery sortable stuff.

I tried to make it bigger but was not successful. If you can let us know and we can fix it.

Hi!

I have not tryied the latest GIT since about two weeks, but this new sidebar drag and drop feature brings back an old wish of mine, namely:

Would it be possible to have the sidebar below the actual image. Thus the image could stretch to the full width of the page.

For me the gallery is a way to present pictures to friends of mine. I do not put any information into the sidebar, but still it is there and taking up space, that I would rather love to see reserved for the actual picture.

At the moment I upload pictures with 800 px width, but it gets scaled down to fit next to the sidebar.

It was different in G1, where all comments, descriptions, etc. were displayed underneath. For the ease of installation and because it is the current product I will not go back to G1, but I miss the unobtrusive way how pictures were presented there.

Kind regards

Sure with a custom theme.

Yes, for now you would need to create a theme for that :)

Don't see how that has anything to do with the drag-n-drop behavior, but:

Upgrade to the latest experimental code first:
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Upgrading

Then you can drag and drop and remove the sidebar stuff using the interface by going to Admin > Appearance > Manage Sidebar
