I notice a lot of answers on the forums containing the text "upgrade to the latest experimental". Wouldn't it be better to just put a stable experimental version on http://gallery.menalto.com/ ?
New users won't know the difference. Instead they just downloaded and installed something that can be fixed by downloading the right (experimental) version in the first place.

Of course there might be a very good reason I'm just not aware of.

Also: would it be possible to add a few extra subforums to the gallery3 forum? Things like "User themes" and "User mods" maybe? Might increase moderation needs although everyone has been very nice as far as I can tell.

Why not the experimental version on the download page: Just this weekend there was a time where a bug slipped though, if users downloaded that version they would have got a blank screen. It does not happen often but it does occasionally. It was fixed a few hours later, but what if the devs where on holidays or traveling then the bug would have been out for longer and affected more users.

Once G3 is released we will have a more prominent G3 download and forums. G3 is still in development and not meant for production servers. We could change everything at any time and have you start over. That is why we have things a bit hidden so that enthusiastic users such as yourself can test and provide feedback.
If it was more prominent then we would have to deal with a significantly larger load of support questions with the general public that is not savvy to try beta software.

That's why I said "stable". I didn't mean every experimental version, but I get the point. Thanks for the reply.
