[SOLVED] Problems with images jumping around and with organize album

I had previously had a lot of problems with the alpha releases so I gave up at that time. Then I tried Beta 2 and things were actually working quite well. Now I have upgraded to Beta 3 and things seem to have gone downhill. On the home page, when I mouse over an image, a border apears around the image, and when I move off the image, the image jumps to a new position on the page, usually lower and to the right. If I then refresh the page, the images are back to where they were originally. This happens in Opera but it works fine in Firefox and IE. Only the image in the upper left corner is stable, all the others jump position.

When I go to "Organize Album", in Opera and Firefox I get the thumbnails. In Beta 2, they were all grayed out until selected. Now in Beta 3 they are all fully visible, which helps in seeing them to select the ones I want, however, now I can't click on them to move them. In IE I don't even get the thumbnails. Also in both Beta 2 and 3, with Opera, if I click in the scroll bar area and then return to the images, it keeps trying to draw a box to select multiple images. This does not happen in FireFox.

Thanks,
Steve

Most, if not all, of your issues have been addressed. Upgrade to the latest experimental code:

Yes, thanks, I upgraded to the latest version gallery-gallery3-7ea13b3 and the jumping around problem has been fixed. Now, however, I can't login to try anything else. The "login" link has been moved from the top right to the top left and when I click it it tries to go to ~/gallery3/index.php/login/ajax and all I get is a blank window. This happens in IE, FireFox, and Opera under Windows 2000 and Kubuntu 9.04.

Follow the tips for "unpacking the code" exactly in the link I provided.
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Upgrading

What happened, is there are left over files from B3 that have been moved since B3 was released. Since they no longer exist in the current code they don't get overwritten and the upgrader does not delete/rename files. And the way Kohana's cascading file system works, it's still reading those files and some stuff is getting loaded twice and some of it's not up to date code.

If you unpack G3 into a new directory, move your current var directory into your new G3 directory and delete/rename your old G3 directory then rename your new G3 directory to be in place of your old one, the problem will clear itself up.

If you use Git to pull the code this manages all of this for you and you wouldn't run into this.

OK, I tried that download, unpack, rename, etc procedure and now the "login" is back on the right side and when I click on it, I get the login pop-up. When I enter my user name and password, I get a screen that says "Search results" and just shows my first album. There must be something still wrong with my installation. Do I need to re-install from scratch or is there some way to fix it.

If you don't have any or many photos in there I'd try reinstalling from scratch.

But I'd also kind of like to see the behavior you're describing. If you want to troubleshoot this further, PM (click Write to author) login details and I'll login and see, or post a screenshot.

I sent you a PM so that you can see what's happening.

Everything looks fine to me. I'd try clearing your browser cache.

Actually the only odd thing I see is that in your sidebar 2 entries for language preferences. Hmmm, and in mine I see 2 entries for RSS feeds. Looks like that's another bug. But as far as your site goes, it looks right.

That's wierd, now I can login, too. Now when I try the Organize album function, I am not getting any thumbnails to show up. Actually, in Opera, they show for a second or so, and then disappear. Just a blank window with the "Drag ..." message at the top. In FireFox the images don't show at all. I haven't tried my Windows computer so I don't know what will happen with IE. If I can be of any further help Let me know.

That's odd. Ugh, I was beating my head against your install.... I tried in mine and got the same thing. I just pulled the latest code and still the same thing.

Hi there, I also had the same dificulties. I did the upgrade to the latest version as "Nivekiam" suggested but it did'nt help.

I've made a list of problems that seems to be overlapping with the topic starter:

When visiting the main Gallery page and hovering over a thumbnail of a picture. All other pictures seem to jump all over the page.
This is'nt happening on Firefox, so this is maybe a Internet Explorer only bug?

When I want to organize my pictures, the window loads but when I want to drag a image to another album I get a white page.
On Firefox I can click the picture but nothing happens, I can't also drag it to another album. But I don't get a white page thats for sure.

Topnav menu is'nt working in Night Wind Theme. I'll get a long list of links in white (IE & FF)
Same problem with the Wind Theme.

On the Theme Choise page:
Whem I click a theme to preview the old theme is in the window not the theme I intended to preview.

And a request, is it possible to make a link per Theme so that I don't have to preview the theme to select it? Maybe underneath the discription? "Chose theme"?

I realy hop you can help me fixing these issues, I realy love Gallery and definently want to keep it :)

Thanks in advance!
Paul

Paullezzz, do another upgrade, make sure you're grabbing the experimental code and follow the tips on this page about unpacking the code.

http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Upgrading

So you are unpacking the code into a new directory, moving the var directory into that, then renaming directories. DO NOT overwrite your current install with the new code. Old files will remain behind and because of Kohana's cascading file system they may get loaded and cause problems:

Maybe I sound like a noob, but what is meant with renaming directories?

I downloaded my Var dir, should I remove all the other files and upload the expirimental files?

Ok, I've moved my var to my local PC, and removed everything else. Did a clean upgrade and some isues are resolved.

The thumbnails are'nt jumping arround anymore, great. But in IE I still get a white page when trying to organise my pictures :S

Hi!

I still have the same problem. All pictures are jumping around the screen! This problem is only in IE. In FF everything is Ok! Just downloaded the latest version of G3 but no help. Is there any other change to get things to work? At the moment I use FF but can´t share the link because many other people use IE.

Hope there is a way out of that problem :)

Thanks!

Thank you nivekiam!

Just upgraded my G3 to latest experimental version 192b117.zip and things went much better. But still there is problem that pictures are jumping around. Pictures are going to jump around Only if you have more then one row of albums. I mean if you have 3 albums on the row and you have 4 albums then it makes two rows and the one album that is alone in the second row is jumping around. My English isn´t very good so is I paste here picture of my Gallery. Hope you understand what i mean :)

Hope there is a way out from that problem :)

Please post or PM me a link to your site. What version of IE are you using? Does this happen when logged in or only when guest?

Did you make sure you did not overwrite existing code, but installed put the new code in a new place and moved the var directory into that?

Hi!

Browser is IE 8 Beta version 8.0.6001.18241 but i´ve tried other versions as well! At the moment when i´m trying with IE8 latest version (downloaded today) the problem is gone! So it seems like the problem is with IE8 Beta releases. There was a problem when i was logged in as administrator or just watching the pictures as guest. It was clean install without copying "var" dir. Just creating everything all over!
