PHP __FILE__ directive is not functioning correctly

OS - Server 2008, using IIS7.
Database MSSQL express 2008 with SP1
PHP version 5.2.11
gallery home location c:\inetpub\wwwroot\gallery2

Trying to install, get to System Checks :-

Error Message:
Error: your PHP __FILE__ directive is not functioning correctly. Please file a support request with your webserver administrator or in the Gallery forums.

I have googled, to no avail, all references if to old infomration, all suggesting that PHP is at fault, usually ver 4.3 and 4.4.

I have checked permissions on the home folder, they all appear OK.

Ideas please.
I have been using gallery for several years now on 2003 with apache, php, mysql etc no issues. Time to upgrade server. Have everything else working.

Then why switch to IIS and MSSQL? That sure doesn't seem like an upgrade to me. Seems like a major headache and a few steps backwards.

Can you post an actual link to phpinfo so we can see the full environment Gallery is running in?

I have a feeling if you installed a slightly older version of XAMPP it would work just fine. I say older version because the current versions are shipping with PHP 5.3 and G2 doesn't run under PHP 5.3
