sorry i don't have more info on the above at this time. An error has occurred while interacting with the database, is what i get when trying to access my url http://www.ifitsgotwheels.com/gallery2/main.php i cant log into gallery to get into my admin. my pictures on my forums are all still there and working. i am currently making a full ftp back up of my gallery2 install. when i started my website and gallery2 install several years ago, i was very new into webiste/directory/server stuff. im no expert now, but i do know more then i did. anyways, wheni contacted my server and told them i wanted a gallery installed to show pics of my work off to the world, they installed gallery for me. which is great and worked for severral years now. when i go into my server and look at my files/folders/directory i see there are two gallery's installed. both in the same directory/location. one is updated, one is not updated. i called my serverr/host and asked them to delete one, and they said since they were both on the same path or location deleting one could cause problems. my question is can i delete these two gallery installs completely from my server, do a fresh install of gallery and reupload my files/pictures into gallery and have it all work in the end? i have looked in the faq's and see how to move from here to there, but i dont see anything on the url's of my pictures on various forums. if i have a picture of mickey mouse posted in a disney forum, when i erase/install will mickey mouse still be there, or a big red x? is there an easier solution to my problem? is this something a "rookie" can do, or is someone available for some money to do what i need? appreciate any and all answers. -james

Something is screwed up:
If you start over from scratch, sadly, Mickey will be gone unless you were using URL Rewrite, but if that URL to the picture is using a unique ID, you'll get a big red x.
I don't know the best way to untwist this. It sounds like you have 2 installs, one over wrote the other and they may be using the same database and have really twisted and hosted things up.

im goin to try restore the server to an earlier date to when it was working fine.
it has been in this configuration for few years now and everything has been working fine.
all the posts on my forum with pictures are fine, but i cannot access the gallery in any way to add/modify any pictures.

after 48 hours of working with the techs, i get this response:

Thank you for contacting technical support.
Per your request, we have renamed the existing public_html folder to 'public_html_nov5' and have restored the public_html from the backup available of November 1.
We have also checked the Gallery2 application that is installed. I tested by installing a fresh copy of the application gallery2 to the folder 'gallery2_new' and the new gallery2 site works fine. I tested by connecting to the previous installation database 'iigw' and received the same error; it appears that the database 'iigw' to which the gallery2 application was installed is corrupted. Also, noticed few tables associated with the application are missing in the database.
You may want to backup the database content, install a fresh copy and check importing the database contents table by table or else rebuild the gallery from scratch.
If you have any other questions or concerns simply reply back to this email.

There's not much we can do about a corrupt database. You can try repairing the corrupt tables, but for the missing tables, it would depend on what they are, but most likely there's nothing to be done other than starting from scratch.

thats fine, but how do i copy all my pictures and whatnot into a new fresh install and make it work?
i cant access myadmin to turn off modrewrite..
i have thousands of pictures all of the internet, i cant loose the urls to them

You can use the add from local server method

NOTE: depending on how those images are linked to your Gallery they still might break. If you want to post or PM me a link to where one of those are posted I can take a look and see if it's going to be a problem or not.

If you don't leave that current gallery where it's at, all of those images will break. The serial numbers (2717 in this case) will change when you re-import the photos into the new gallery.

i am a bit confused.
the gallery is going to stay in the same place, same name for the folder.
there is something corrupt with some of the files. i am going to install a clean G2, can i install some of the folders/files from my back up into the new clean install and keep the links (serial numbers) to the pictures working?
it would be similar to moving from one server to another i think.

No, you're not. If you have image1.jpg imported into one install and start a fresh install and import image1.jpg into that new install, they will have different serial numbers and that is how you've linked to them in your forums.
That picture you've posted above, if you upload/import that into your new gallery will very likely not have the same serial number, 2717.
