Gallery2 embed vs. normal - missing menu items

I am in the process of embedding gallery2 into a customer's website and ran into a weird problem.

On the embedded version, if you are logged in, all you see is "Site Admin". "Your Account" and Logout are missing. If you are not logged in, there is nothing.

Accessing gallery via main.php shows everything correctly.

The standard version is at http://www.kateskreations.biz/html/main.php

I do have a custom theme.css for the matrix theme, but the only thing that changed is removing the gallery header.

I realize there are other problems like font size and such. I am working on those.

Any pointer would be helpful.
